It was wonderful. Alex was so friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Zagreb, it made the tour memorable. He even tailored the tour to my interests which are history and architecture, and he knew everything inside-out. I would definitely recommend doing this tour x

We were in Zagreb as the last stop on our tour of the Balkans. There were 4 of us, and we had learned so much on our trip that we thought this tour might be more of the same. We were wrong. Our guide was Aleksandar, and he was exceptional. We met him in a park that was part of the Green Horseshoe. We did a little general talking about things around Zagreb, like the fact that Zagreb holds the current honor for the best Christmas market in Europe. Aleksandar explained the history of his city, and then we walked to the Ban Josip Jelacic Square to begin our walk through the old town area. From the square we walked up the street toward the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption. From there we made several stops. In the Dolan Market area, we saw beautiful vegetables, most notably those gorgeous red peppers, paprikas, that were part of every meal. We also went into the fish market. We took the funicular up a level to the upper walls where we saw Lotrscak Tower, one of the old city watch towers. Even higher up we saw St. Mark’s Church (built in the 19th century) with its multicolored tile roof. On that level we saw buildings topped with interesting-looking spiked balls that were designed to be witch catchers so that the hags could not enter the buildings. On the way down we walked through the World War II tunnel used as a bomb shelter during that war and later during the Homeland War. It has a capacity for 5000 people. Our trip down led us back to the square. Before leaving us, Aleksandar accommodated us by walking us to a mall area with a grocery store and ATMs. Aleksandar had been a great guide who gave us a lasting impression of his ancient and modern city. We had arrived expecting Zagreb to simply be a place to fly home from. We left quite sure that it was a place we would love to come back to for a longer stay.Getting to see Zagreb with Alex was such a treat!
