Perfect way to spend a long layover. Organising with Rajeewa via WhatsApp was seamless and he was really helpful with answering all my questions. I was picked up from the airport (and despite my significant flight delay) everything was ready to roll. Diyath was my tour guide and was wonderful. Made the whole process simple. He was very knowledgeable and was able to provide history of the places we visited. Would recommend to anyone who has a long layover in Sri Lanka! This was a quite remarkable experience - The Tea Plantation was truly incredible - the Stick Fishermen, The Turtles, the Spice Garden and the lunch - all good. Our Driver Guide was very personable, very knowledgeable and very professional - THANK YOU VIATOR.

We desired a very different day that the one most offered for the city, and our guide Patham did everything possible to make stops that met our interests as well as our ship's limited time in port. Patham took us on a river / lake tour to see birds, monkeys and a water monitor as well as an isolated family cinnamon farm. Our first stop at a turtle rescue non-profit was poignant (with cute babies!) and the tour of the white tea plantation was beautiful. 5-star day for we challenging clients. We had a good day, the guide was maybe not as informative as he could have been and they definitely needed to provide a van not a car for 4 Adults we were crammed in the back of a car in that heat but we made the most of it

I paid a hefty price as a solo tourist, but I was still surprised that I was the only person on the tour. It was a newer, comfortable sedan car with air conditioning. The driver was punctual, polite, and allowed flexibility in the tours to allow for my preferences. I was already in Galle, so we left right away to do the Madu River cruise, since it's in an open boat with no shade. This was an hour and a half, with a stop at an island where they produce cinnamon. We also saw prawn farms, an island where people leave Cobras, and several Hindu and Buddhist temples. Again, I was alone in the boat with my English speaking boat guide, directing him to places I wanted to see more closely for photos. I waved happily at several other boats jammed with Chinese tourists. Our next stop was the Tsunami museum, which has very good explanations of earthquake and tsunami science. The pictures of the 2004 devastation were heartbreaking, including a whole train full of people. One wall had a lace curtain over it because some people don't want to look at dead bodies. Your choice. Down the road were Sri Lankan government and Japanese memorials to the victims. Other stops were a moonstone mine, complete with jewelry shop (surprise!) but the jewelry was stunning. I asked to skip the stilt fishermen and the tea plantation, since I had already seen them. Our final stop was a turtle farm and hatchery, where they kept adult turtles that had lost limbs in motorboat or fishing accidents and protected eggs for hatching. I proudly took my baby turtle to the ocean and set him free. Kids would love this. I skipped the lunch stop (lunch not included) because I wanted to take a shower first and have lunch in Galle. So my tour ended a little early, but I liked that it was all my decision and I didn't have to sit tight and wait for a crowd of people. I had time to get a pedicure that afternoon. My only issue was that for that price ($80 for a single) I assumed entrance fees were included. I opened the e-voucher and it is clearly stated they are not. So I spent an additional 5,500 rupees on the boat tour, 500 on the museum, and 1500 on the turtle hatchery (about $40). I wasn't given the option, but I probably could have saved money by having more people in the boat or not doing the turtle release at the hatchery. But I had a great day and covered a lot of ground, which would not have been possible by bus or tuk tuk.Wanted to books transfer from Colombo to Galle and got a bonus tour of Galle and surrounds included by Kumar.
