Luis was excellent! Prior to the trip, we had an email conversation about our interests, and he gave us some ideas to consider. The outcome was perfect. This included visiting a local market where he knew the vendors and we were able to taste many of the local fruits, and later a panoramic view of the city from a place where tourists never go. A highlight was a visit to the botanical gardens which Luis had explored since childhood. His enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of the gardens was wonderful. Additionally, his thoughtful perspective of the history and socio-cultural development of Rio enriched the whole experience. My brother and I decided to book a private tour with Luis after I read many positive reviews, and we had a day packed full of various activities! From the moment Luis picked us up we started a conversation about Rio and its history, geography, and all of the best things to do here. He told us about himself and personalized the tour around what we wanted. We started by going to the botanical gardens where we saw and fed wild monkeys, saw some other wildlife, tasted exotic fruits and everything else that the gardens had to offer. It is a huge place and without Luis it would have been one large confusing maze to navigate through. Next we went to the farmers market where we tried some more foods that were new to us. After this we visited a town across from Rio and saw some architecture, beautiful sightseeing point, and ate a great affordable lunch at a kilo bar. Even though our tour was supposed to end after 7 hours, Luis took extra time to take us to a waterfall and it did not feel rushed at all. My brother and I only speak English and Luis helped us get around for the day; even translated some of what the locals were saying for us. Throughout the day, Luis also gave is some great tips and advice for the rest out our trip in Rio. This is a great experience that is well worth the money and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to see some sights in Rio that you would never find or even imagine finding without a tour guide!Six years ago my wife and I booked a personal tour with Luis. Six years ago my wife and I booked a personal tour with Luis. This year as we were planning to show Rio to some friends I was happy to see that Luis was still doing personal tours. We were not disappointed. The tour was much the same, yet different and Luis not only knows where to go and what to see, but he knows the history and the culture. You will not only have a great experience, but will learn things about Rio and about Brazil that you have not known before.
