We booked a Toba inlet tour, but ended up going on a Bute Inlet tour as they had to cancel our original booking due to logging. The good: Absolutely outstanding wildlife viewing!!! Without a doubt, they did a fabulous job of not only finding wildlife, but respecting their boundaries, which is also important to me. We saw orcas, porpoises, sea lions, grizzlies, eagles (bald and golden), a bobcat, and humpbacks. Despite there not being a lot of grizzlies (we really only saw one close enough for quality photos), she was with us for a good amount of time, and put on an entertaining show for us. The Homalco First Nations guides were fantastic - very friendly, funny, and told us wonderful cultural stories. The scenery was out of this world! We've never seen that part of BC before - and cruising through those islands you truly get a sense of why they call it "Beautiful BC:! Our tour guides for the day - Jim and Nova were very knowledgeable (especially Nova) and for the most part, very friendly. Why I rated it 4 instead of 5: The boat is very tightly packed. I've been on many whale watching tours, and have never been on a boat that I felt so crammed in like a sardine before. And we didn't even have a full boat. Going through the beautiful scenery we went through, there was no opportunity to take any good photos of the scenery itself. It's just not possible to take quality photos from your seat in the boat. So the only time you can take photos is when the boat is stopped for wildlife viewing. And the only other thing that put a very slight damper on my day was that there were a couple of instances where Jim was a little bit rude to me. I didn't let it ruin my day, but was surprised given that for most of the day he was really good. Overall, I would recommend this tour if you're a wildlife enthusiast. Nothing is ever perfect, and I don't expect it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and came away from it knowing it was the highlight of my trip to Campbell River. This is not my first grizzly tour with Campbell River Whale Watching, I try to do a tour every September for the last few years now. This is not my first grizzly tour with Campbell River Whale Watching, I try to do a tour every September for the last few years now. But this was my first time doing the full day tour to Toba Inlet - I've done Bute Inlet/Orford River a few times and wanted to try a new location. As always, the tour did not disappoint. Robin (aka Batman) was our guide this trip and he did an excellent job - very friendly and personable, and knowledgeable as well. Managed to spot at least 14 humpbacks on the boat trip to and from Toba, and then 6 grizzlies (or possibly sometimes the same ones, in different locations lol) on the land tour. Highly recommend this and any other tour with Campbell River Whale Watching, always a fantastic time. This was the best day ever....Tyler was our guide and he was so informative and helpful to all the guests.
