Stop At: Ranua Zoo, Rovaniementie 29, Ranua 97700 Finland
We will pick you up from centrally located hotels in Rovaniemi or Santa Claus Village and head out to Ranua Wildlife park, the Northernmost zoo in the World! Entrance fees are included in the price, so all you have to do is sit back and relax for one hour until it's time to meet the animals. The zoo is located in the Ranua Wildlife Park, where animals feel like at home. Here you can see arctic foxes, polar bears (the only ones in Finland), minks, otters, geese and 50 other northern animal species.
We will take time to meet the animals and walk approximately 3km through the Lappish forest. Just as we start to get chilly, we will head to the cozy restaurant to enjoy delicious lunch. After lunch, our professional local guide will help you get around and show you the souvenir shops and places where you can buy authentic Lapland products.
Later, in the afternoon, we continue our Lappish experience by taking you to the traditional wood-burning sauna.
Duration: 3 hours
Pass By: Kivitaipaleen Nuorisoseura ry, Perungantie 11, 97670 Kivitaipale, Finland
Once we get there we will teach you how to fire up a Finnish sauna and how to make the most of your magical time in the North. Part of the joy of sauna is the cutting of wood for the kiuas (heater). The healthful exercise in addition to sauna gives a more desirable löyly (steam) as well as muscular stimulation. Building the fire increases the pleasure of sauna. Kiuas, or heater , the heart of Finnish sauna, and that it characteristically gives each sauna its own personality.
Once the sauna is ready it's your time to relax. After a few minutes in the sauna, it's time to jump in the private ❄️Arctic lake to cool down . Then, you repeat the whole process again. Interchanging warm and cold intervals has many health benefits.
Whether it's your first time in the sauna, or you're used to blowing off some steam, what we have here is once in a lifetime experience.
Lakes in Finland are frozen quite a long time in a year: in Lapland usually seven, in Central Finland five and in Southern part of the country at least four months. But this is not a barrier to winter swimming - we have an ice hole ready for your! Our guides will tell you how to do this procedure in the safest way!
Health is a most important gift. It is a becoming more and more evident that sauna bathing is a necessity rather than a luxury or status symbol. The Finnish sauna stimulates the flow of blood through every vessel is the body and accelerates the excretion of poisonous wasters from the body in the form of sweat. Heat and cooling, washing and relaxation, health and safety, moderation and personal convenience – all these are important considerations when visiting this tour!
Traditional Finnish firewood Sauna have an invigorating, rejuvenating, and tempering effect, while cleansing the body, refreshing the spirit and giving the feeling of complete well-being which is always the result of a good sauna session.
Once the hot and cold sauna experience is done it's time to cuddle up in the cottage and help yourself to some tasty Blazed salmon cooked over an open fire.

Alex was friendly, knowledgeable and so kind. We enjoyed every aspect of our adventure! My favorite was when we arrived at the lake. Floating in the icy waters (in dry suits) was so relaxing and meditative, looking at the pristine forests surrounding us. Followed by the authentic sauna and jumping into the icy waters was so invigorating- we did it 3 times! The excursion ended with a fabulously prepared salmon dinner that was smoked and served with fresh vegetables, bread and potatoes. Warm cider and gingerbread cookies for desert. It was the most fun I’ve ever had on a tour! Highly highly recommended!First we were guided by Alex through the Ranua Zoo, he offered many insightful facts about the animals and even Finland/ Lapland in general. First we were guided by Alex through the Ranua Zoo, he offered many insightful facts about the animals and even Finland/ Lapland in general. Then we ate lunch at the zoo which was in the form a buffet which was tasty. Then he drove us to their cabin where we got to experience ice floating with his wife. We then enjoyed the sauna which we had all to ourselves and then also experienced ice dipping. Ended the day with a delicious dinner by the fire place. All in all Nordic adventures helped us experience the most amazing day. They are both very very sweet and knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to have had the lake/ cabin/ sauna all to ourselves which I must say was the most romantic setting I have ever experienced. I would highly recommend to book this tour to get an insight of the lappish life.We came to northern Finland for the first time, and this was a great way to experience it. We came to northern Finland for the first time, and this was a great way to experience it. Our guide was very passionate about the beautiful arctic animals at the Ranua Zoo and told us more about them. We then had 2 hours to ourselves at a private sauna and a lake that was relaxing and lots of fun. The salmon dinner afterwards was delicious, too. The tour felt very personal, and we had a great time talking to the guide about the region.Tania was our guide - she was very friendly, forth-coming and actively engaged in conversations. She explained a lot about the culture and tips on how to best enjoy Rovaniemi. We had a short schedule, but we made the best out of it, thanks to Tania and Alex.

Amazing experience. The zoo trip was really nice. The snowy landscape was breathtaking and we were able to watch a bunch of nordic fauna including wolves, owls, moose, wolverines and a polar bear. The lunch was ok. The second part of the trip was truly marvelous (and a must do!). We were brought to a private property with noone in sight for 3 km. The combination of the hot traditional Finnish sauna, which can get up to 100°, with the freezing cold of the snow and frozen lake, in which you can swim, was exceptional. To top it all of, an amazing cozy dinner of smoked salmon and other Finnish delicacies prepared by Alex and Tania who were extremely caring and chill hosts. Totally recommend.
