We booked a full day wine tour for our cruise stop in Bandol, FR. Eric was our tour guide. We visited Domaines Bunan and Domaine De L'Olivette, then had time to have lunch and shop in the beautiful village of Cassis. Eric was fantastic. He is very knowledgeable about the winemaking process and obviously passionate about the wines in the Provence/Bandol region. We were so thankful we did not book wine tours through the cruise line as we observed passengers boarding large busses headed to commercial operations. Both of the wineries we visited were small family owned estates that are not accessible by bus due to the beautiful narrow roads. Eric worked very hard to tailor the day around our preferences. He speaks fluent English and made us feel like his friends. After the wine tours and visit to beautiful Cassis, he made a stop at the overlook of Parc national des Calanques for the most amazing views. From our initial contact with the reservation team for Provence Wine Tours, to our day with Eric, everything was perfect. We took a full day (7+ hours) wine tour to Cassis and Bandol with “Provence Wine Tours”. The wine tour was excellent and well done. Our guide was Eric, whose English is excellent, and who is very knowledgeable about the wine industry in this area.

Gaëtane managed the tour booking and also was our guide for the day. There was a hiccup with the online payment system but Gaëtane was on top of the issue and everything was sorted very quickly. The company requests full payment for the tour in advance. Ordinarily that would make us choose another operator lest they don't show up on the day, but the reviews here wre so positive and Gaëtane's eagerness to customise the tour for us led us to chance it. We are really glad we did. Our tour consisted of three wine stops and 90 minutes of on-our-own lunch in Cassis. The first stop was a burgeoning family winery where they were in process of boxing bottles of wine for shipping. Next was a wine stop at a co-operative, along with the explanation of what a wine co-op is and how they are rehabbing their image. Finally we stopped at Jean Tigana's winery. (If you don't know who he is, he's an 80s French soccer star who was his generation's Claude Makelele. If you don't know who Makelele is, he's a good soccer player too....) The wines were of good quality. Ga¨etane is very friendly and very knowledgeable about the region and the wineries we visited. I am rehabbing a broken leg and Gaëtane was always careful to choose the most accessible paths for us to see the wineries, and she dropped us at a very convenient spot to walk (roll) around Cassis. We would certainly book with this company again to sample another terroir's wine if we could be guided by Gaëtane. One tip for novices: we had not done a wine tour in this part of France before and the wineries are just getting the hang of welcoming groups for tastings. You can certainly get water to wash your palate on request, but they do not provide bread, cheese, or other nibbles to break up the tasting experience. We were not used to this, as in Italy, Iberia, and the Americas we've always found ample snacks provided. If you need them, bring your own: none of the places we visited, from mid-morning onward, skimped on wine!
