What to expect
Day 1: Santa Cruz Island
Stop At: Baltra, Baltra, Galapagos Islands
After landing at Baltra Airport, we drive to the Itabaca Channel to take a ferry across to Santa Cruz Island. A 30-minute bus ride takes us up to the fascinating, more humid Highlands of the island where we’ll learn about its unique ecosystems and biodiversity. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Highland View Galapagos, Via The Garrapatero Beach Recinto El Cascajo, 200350 Ecuador
After lunch, we drive to a nearby reserve that is one of the best places in the archipelago to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat. The tortoises are easy to spot, lumbering around, munching on grass and leaves and wallowing in small pools. There are several lava tunnels to explore in the reserve, too. A short bus ride takes us down to Puerto Ayora to board Yacht Isabela II.
Duration: 3 hours

Day 2: Santiago Island & Chinese Hat Islet
Stop At: Puerto Egas, Ecuador
Following a wet landing on a black, sandy beach, our trail takes us to enjoy close-up encounters with recently-reintroduced land iguanas, plus land and marine birds amid a landscape of tuff-stone layers, craggy rocks, and lava flows. At low tide, marine iguanas graze upon the algae beds. We can also observe a colony of fur seals, usually dozing in the shade of some rocks.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Galapagos Islands, Galapagos Islands
Chinese Hat Islet:
This islet, formed only fairly recently, makes a beautiful afternoon visit as we explore the wildlife along its 1, 312 ft long (400 m long) trail, which begins at a crescent-shaped, white sandy beach. The cove offers excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities amid white-tipped reef sharks and Galapagos penguins
Duration: 2 hours

Day 3: Genovesa Island
Stop At: Prince Phillip's Steps, Southern part of Darwin Bay Ecuador
The day kicks off with a panga ride along the cliffs of “Bird Island”, as Genovesa is affectionately nicknamed, followed by a landing at a steep staircase which connects us with a flat plateau. From here the trail winds its way through large colonies of Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, great frigatebirds, and storm petrels. With luck, we’ll be able to spot the short-eared owl. Those who do not wish to disembark can enjoy a longer panga (inflatable dinghy) ride along the cliffs, weather conditions permitting. Snorkeling and kayaking activities are available.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Darwin Bay, Ecuador
We land after lunch at the beautiful white beach of Darwin Bay. Here we walk amid literally hundreds of birds, most of which are frigatebirds, red-footed and Nazca boobies, as well as gulls, herons, finches, and mockingbirds.

Day 4: Santa Fe & South Plaza Islands
Stop At: Santa Fe Island, Santa Fe Island, Galapagos Islands
We take the dinghy over to this idyllic sandy-white beach populated by colonies of sea lions. Galapagos hawks are often easily observed, perched atop salt bushes. The Santa Fe land iguana may be spotted during our exploration. Following the walk, we can snorkel and swim along a natural wave barrier or ride the glass-bottom boat.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: South Plaza Island, Ecuador
Following lunch and a rest, we disembark (dry landing) in this channel, whose turquoise waters contrast brilliantly with the white sand and black lava of the shoreline. Beyond, a carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents serves as groundcover for a grove of luminescent green prickly-pear cactus. Yellow-grey land iguanas sit beneath these, waiting patiently for pears to drop. Along the coastline we find sea lion colonies, while frigates, swallow-tailed gulls and shearwaters glide, playing with the thermals.

We were a group of 22 adults celebrating turning 50 and had the experience of a lifetime on the Isabela II. We have done a lot of different adult group travel over the last 25 years and this one was definitely one of the most memorable. Metropolitan Touring helped arrange our whole experience, including a phenomenal stay at Finch Bay Resort after the cruise. The naturalists were knowledgable, the food on the yacht was great quality and able to accomodate different dietary restrictions in our group, the amenities on the boat itself were nicer than we expected. They provided wetsuits with plenty of sizes and snorkel gear; some of our group brought their own mask/snorkel. For those that wanted a break from snorkeling, there were kayaks and glass bottom boat. The paddleboard was more challenging than expected because there was no fin. There was internet if needed to check in with our kids, but we tried to disconnect on the trip. We swam with sea lions, saw all the different animals that inhabit the islands. You felt active but not over-exhausted. The naturalists also took some amazing photos of the animals and our group that they sent to us after the trip. We would definitely recommend this itinerary and cruise. This was amazing. This was amazing. I have travelled around some places but this was by far the best experience. The Yatch is beautiful, great rooms, clean spaces and the food is fantastic. The personnel is so friendly and you will feel welcomed from the beginning, the tour guides were super nice and had lots of knowledge, they were very approachable and very cool. The drinks are awesome as well. The yatch is smal and perfect for relaxing while walking around those magnificent islands. I’m planning to go back and I would not hesitate to rebook with this company. We all in the boat loved the experience. I recommend it 100%Una expedición memorable al rededor de las Islas Galápagos, fantástica desde el primer momento. Visitamos Santa Cruz, Santiago, Sombrero Chino, Genovesa, Santa Fe y Plaza Sur. Melissa at Metropolitan Touring put together a fabulous trip for two couples to Quito, Ecuador; the Galápagos Islands (northern itinerary on Yacht Isabella 2); Lima, Peru; the Sacred Valley; and Machu Picchu. Melissa at Metropolitan Touring put together a fabulous trip for two couples to Quito, Ecuador; the Galápagos Islands (northern itinerary on Yacht Isabella 2); Lima, Peru; the Sacred Valley; and Machu Picchu. The trip was seamless with representatives meeting us and guiding us at all stages of the trip. The guides were enthusiastic and very knowledgeable and contributed greatly to our experience. The accommodations were excellent and the included meals were delicious and focused on local specialties, which we enjoyed. I would highly recommend Metropolitan Touring to anyone wanting to tour this area. This trip is impressive. I never imagined going to a place like Galapagos. Neither crying to leave. This is a lifetime trip. Money comes back, but memories do not, best decision I've ever made.

This was supposed to be a once in a lifetime, but we are already planning our next trip on the Isabela II. Granted, the boat was not full to capacity, but we could not have been better looked after. The cabins were clean and functional, and regularly serviced, and the food quality and service was superb. The naturalist guides were passionate and very knowledgeable and really made each activity a delight. On top of this there was a short information lecture each evening on the conservation and management of the islands. Equipment was provided for activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding. Full information was provided each day on what to expect and what to bring on each excursion/adventure. All the boat crew worked so hard to make the whole trip as seamless as possible. All we had to do was turn up each day at the prearranged times provided, with our cameras at the ready, and enjoy. Fabulous boat and crew and would highly recommend for any trip around the Galapagos.
