Gerês Tour from Braga
Overview
Explore the mountains in a small group setting, hiking through centuries old paths that cut through luxuriant woods and reaching the best viewpoints for fantastic views.
Experience a forest included in the European Network of Biogenetic Reserves and a bit of the 318 km (198 miles) of the geira – the roman highway Via XVIII from Braga (former Bracara Augusta) to Astorga (Asturica Augusta), in Spain.
Depending on the weather, bathe in the fresh, clear waters of the mountain waterfalls or soak in the hot springs used since (at least) the romans, admire the newborn baby horses in the woods or enjoy the magnificent colour palette of the leaves falling – whatever the season, the tour is bound to amaze you.

Stop At: Peneda-Geres National Park, Peneda-Geres National Park, Northern Portugal
The Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG), with its 700 km2, goes from the Mourela plateau to the one in Castro Laboreiro, and includes the mountain ranges of Peneda, Soajo, Amarela and Gerês.
The only Portuguese National Park presents na impressive bothanical diversity - woods, forests, riparian vegetation, peatlands and moist woods – with special relevance to the several rare and endemic species.
The PNPG is home to some of the most important oak forests in Portugal and interesting semi-natural habitats that shelter a diversity of animals with differentiated constitution: endemic (gold-striped salamander), endangered (iberian wolf), limited distribution species (whinchat)...
In the agricultural mosaic the prairies and lime meadows stand out. Rich historical and cultural heritage (megalithic necropolis, traces of Romanization, castles, granaries, ovens, mills, dams, terraces, etc.) to which must be added the curious implantation of mountain villages and the presence of well-preserved traditional architecture sets.

The Peneda Geres area is beautiful. The waterfalls were a plenty. Pedro tailored the tour to our requests. He was full of facts about the flora & fauna. The lunch was absolutely delicious. We even stopped to see wild horses up close!

We spent a most wonderful day in the company of Pedro and Rita visiting the Geres National Park and its beautiful rivers, lakes and mountains. We were picked up perfectly on time at our hotel in Braga with a spacious SUV equipped with a child seat and were greeted with a snack bag for every participant, such a nice touch. Pedro brilliantly tailored our day according to our interests (for us, wild swimming and gentle hikes - he succeeded in finding places that would make us adults go wow whilst being accessible and enjoyable also by a toddler, not an easy task!). We had lunch in a charming and delicious local restaurant. Pedro and Rita are passionate (about their job, the region and sustainable traveling), and eager to share their infinite knowledge. To top it all off, Pedro is great with kids: our daughter (normally a very difficult customer) was just delighted. When booking, I thought the price point was steep. When the day was over, I felt I had underpaid. Our expectations were met and exceeded. We would not hesitate to recommend this activity. The whole trip was amazing and Pedro is the best tour guide ever.We enjoyed the time and our discussions were awesome. Pedro was very kind and flexible to adapt the day to the hot temperature and to take care about us !!!! Recommended tour!!!

Rita and Pedro run a conscientious tour company where they tailor the day to the wishes of the customer. In my case I wanted to go on a long hike in Geres followed by a visit to Bom do Jesus. Rita and Pedro went way above and beyond to give me everything I asked for. Pedro knows and loves this area of Portugal. With a Masters degree in geology he is very knowledgeable about the history of the area. On our hike we saw wild horses being chased by 3 wolves being chased by dogs who were protecting the goatherd. We also had an interesting encounter with the shepherd. I could say much more. But to summarize do not hesitate to hire them to explore the area! With organizational help from Rita, my wife and I enjoyed a fantastic tour of Penedes-Geres with Pedro. We hiked, plunged in a pool, and enjoyed local food. We saw, did and learned so much that we never otherwise would have without Pedro's insight. We can't recommend Keen and Pedro highly enough. This was an incredible tour - our guide Pedro was extremely kind, fun, knowledgeable and accommodating of everything me and my partner wanted to do and see - even returning to our hotel to return an item we left in the car! This was an incredible tour - our guide Pedro was extremely kind, fun, knowledgeable and accommodating of everything me and my partner wanted to do and see - even returning to our hotel to return an item we left in the car! We saw some amazing places that we would never have been able to find on our own, not too off the beaten track (we are not the best hikers) but still away from the crowds which we were very impressed by given it was August and there were lots of tourists in the park in general. We were able to do everything that we wanted to as well as see some of the most beautiful and interesting spots we didn't even know existed! Pedro was able to answer all of the long list of questions we had from culture, geology, history and everything in between! We also had a wonderful lunch (and goodie bag filled with locally made treats) which is one of the best meals we've had in Portugal. Even my partner's more restrictive dietary requirements were catered for which was a big relief to us! We could never have toured the national park like we did without Pedro's insight and will certainly be asking for another tour when we return!
