The tour coach was almost an hour late picking us up. The driver/guide (Carl) drove like a mad man trying to make up time, using frequent profanity making for a very tense and stressful drive up. Our 181 dollar ticket stated that we would have a “gourmet dinner at Bright Angel Lodge overlooking the canyon.” Instead, we were required to eat a cafeteria style meal at Mastik Lodge (with no view) where we had to eat with one hand and swat flies with the other. When an elderly lady showed Carl the paperwork and called the booking agent to verify, Carl was extremely rude and defiant refusing to even speak with the agent that she had on the line. In spite of all this, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and tried to have a good attitude and a decent experience. But our driver ruined our trip by being rude and disrespectful to the elderly people throughout the day and then wound up rudely yelling at us when he missed the turn to our drop off spot. We spent 2 weeks touring the southwest and this company was the only negative experience we had. Their phone customer service was very professional both before and after the trip, but their people working the actual tour were beyond awful. I would NEVER EVER recommend this company. On the one hand this was an amazing tour around some of the Canyon's Southern high points, experiencing the best nature has to offer as the hues altered with the setting sun. On the one hand this was an amazing tour around some of the Canyon's Southern high points, experiencing the best nature has to offer as the hues altered with the setting sun. On the other, the day was seriously marred by a guide who at best could be described as eccentric but at worst could lead you to seriously question how he could actually be employed by the tour operator. His talkative nature has been alluded to in other reviews but the essentially aggressive nature in which he tried to draw the visitors into his web, followed by an almost non-stop verbal barrage of the useful, the bizarre and the irrelevant is troubling. I have 2 hours of (highlight) recording on my phone which I only stopped when another traveller implored "Can we just have 5 minutes quiet please. Just 5 minutes...please." There was also a general petulance to his manner when some people refused to dance to his every beat and in parts he was borderline rude or offensive. All of this is a shame as there is no doubt that he does have a wealth of knowledge about the area, although at this particular point in time he isn't capable of imparting that reasonably. Maybe he blows high and low? He was also very helpful to everyone when the time to take pictures came and I have no doubt everyone's permanent records of the event will have been enhanced by the assistance he was able to offer. I could go on at much greater length about his other eccentricities but it seems unnecessary. In the likely event that the tour company read these reviews, they must surely know who I am talking about and I would implore them to think about this. I cannot be the only person to have brought this up (6 of 8 passengers in our vehicle are in agreement and I suspect the other 2 are just polite) and maybe they should canvas opinion from other recent tours. I'm more than happy to pass on my audio record to confirm the situation should they respond to this review asking for it.Okay... so the views were amazing, seeing the colours change on the grand canyon as the sun set was something we'll never forget. Okay... so the views were amazing, seeing the colours change on the grand canyon as the sun set was something we'll never forget. Unfortunately, we'll also never forget Kevin, our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about plants and different species that lived in the canyon and he did take great photographs but he put a negative spin on literally EVERYTHING. He would point out the areas where you would die easily at various scenic points on the canyon, disregarding the fact that my sister was absolutely terrified of heights. He also informed us of the negative history of the Navajo tribe, something that should remain in the past (focus on the good, right?). He would not shut up the entire day about how he was expecting tips. Everything felt rushed. He even asked me if I was drinking my beer through osmosis because I was taking my time with it at dinner. We're Canadian and he would infer that we couldn't understand English. Thankfully, our group of tourists were absolutely wonderful and offset his negativity. I should also say that we all agreed that he wasn't a great guide. I would highly recommend this tour especially if you can specify that you do not want Kevin. The tour was outstanding. Great tour brought us to different areas away from the crowd gorgeous views. At sunset we were in the perfect place to see a beautiful sunset over the canyon. Dinner meal was great as well. Highly recommend this tour.
