Grand Circle of the Island - All the Island in a Day with Carlos
Overview
The Grand Circle includes all of the volcanoes and main lakes (Sete Cidades, Lagoa do Fogo and Furnas), and we cover the best viewpoints, from one end to the island to the other. Along the way we make sure that you also visit the tea plantation and grant you the chance to try one of the local thermal pools, all must see highlights of the island.
Expect some driving to allow reaching all of these places, the roads and views along the way are itself worth the journey, and your guide makes sure you have plenty of stops to enjoy them, and also some time for coffee break/lunch.
This is the way to go if you only have a short stay on the island, or if you want a first introduction to all of it before you explore it on your own.

We booked this as a couple to experience the delights of the island in our our way and our expert guide Carlos did not disappoint. He arrived on time, was very happy, chatty, friendly and informative - he truly did a fantastic job! We experienced the key attractions including Furnas and Sète Cidades which he filled with incredible tales and facts along the way. We also got to stop and enjoy a tea factory and taste the local produce too. Carlos let us shape the tour the way we wanted and added his favourite locations too. A great way to see the island and I definitely recommend doing so for any new visitors to Sao Miguel. We had a really wonderful day with Carlos and visited the important spots of the island, tea factory, lookouts and wonderful places. I can't praise Carlos and his daughter, Monique enough. Truly a once in a lifetime experience with this beautiful family. My husband, adult daughter and I came as strangers/travelers and left feeling like family. Monique was delightful to deal with planning our time on Sao Miguel - accommodating, warm, insightful, and creative! Carlos gave us 110% , providing the perfect blend of anecdotes, history, expertise and fun. We didn't have the best weather but the sun felt like it was always shining with Carlos with us!I wish I could give 100 stars. I set this tour up for my mom who has mobility issues. She can walk but not long distances. Carlos was our tour guide, (Monique's dad). He went out of his way to park close and even help her out of the car and up stairs. I wish I could give 100 stars. I set this tour up for my mom who has mobility issues. She can walk but not long distances. Carlos was our tour guide, (Monique's dad). He went out of his way to park close and even help her out of the car and up stairs. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the island and pointed out many many local sights. He is a history professor. My tour was cancelled so I joined my mom and I'm so glad I did. While the weather was not cooperative the whole trip (common for Azores) we saw other sights that we didn't know that we'd be able to see. Carlos was prepared with towels and water in the car and even bought us a few local snacks along the way. If you only have 1 day on the island, this is a great way to see a lot in a short time.
