This cooking class and market tour was a phenomenal experience! Our tour guide Pampa was amazing at showing us around the market, letting us buy fruits and vegetables that we’ve never tried and taste tested them while cooking. He shared a lot of history about Antigua and answered all of our curious questions. The ambiance of the class itself was amazing. We made a hearty Pepian stew, homemade tortillas, tostadas, a plantain dessert, and fresh hibiscus tea. The menu was very fulfilling and delightful. Wine was also served and was a great addition to the social gathering. I was amazed with how personable the experience was and breath taking views. It was the highlight of my vacation. What a wonderful experience! I definitely would recommend taking this cooking class. We learned to cook an authentic Guatemalan meal with Ingrid and Joaquin. They were great instructors and very fun to learn from. Thank you Joaquin for salsa dancing with me!

Wonderful cooking class and tour. We were able to see parts of the market we had missed and may not have checked out otherwise. Our guide Jose was super friendly and we were able to get some fruits we'd never seen before to try. We also got to take a tuk tuk to the class location (which I had decided I wanted to do last minute) and they were very accommodating! We were driven back after the class later at night. The rooftop kitchen and dining area is very beautiful and has a perfect view of the surrounding volcanos and city. There was a wood burning stove and our chef was so knowledgeable and taught us tips and tricks in preparing some Guatemalan specialities - rellenitos, tostados, and pepian with corn tortillas. It was fun and delicious and we also tried some local alcohols! It was an intimate and wonderful experience and we would definitely do it again! I'm also super happy I have some recipes I can now try at home.I can’t say enough about the fun time we had with Joaquin, Fernando and Ingrid! I can’t say enough about the fun time we had with Joaquin, Fernando and Ingrid! Joaquin and Fernando were right on time picking us up from our AirBnb. They walked with us to a huge market in Antigua and did a wonderful job of showing us around, explaining all the different types of foods that we weren’t familiar with, and helping us get samples of different fruits, vegetables and drinks that we wanted to try while picking up the ingredients we needed for our meal. We then went back to the Cuscun kitchen which was on a beautiful rooftop terrace. Joaquin made sure we were never empty on drinks and appetizers (he even brought over fresh tamales that his mom had just prepared next door) while Fernando Ingrid showed us every step to cooking a traditional Guatemalan meal of tostadas, pepian, and rellenitos. I highly recommended adding this tour to your itinerary in Antigua! We had a blast! We knew we were in for a fun day the moment we met Joaquin and Fernando! We knew we were in for a fun day the moment we met Joaquin and Fernando! They were fun, friendly and very personable. Fernando spoke perfect English while Joaquin spoke only Spanish but somewhat understood English. They picked us up, on time, from our hotel and we were on our way to the market in Antigua. The market was nothing like anything we had ever experienced in the states! Joaquin led us through a maze of different sections containing produce, meats, herbs, spices, clothing and a food court. They showed us their favorite place to eat and introduced us to the owner and chef, Jaime. He let us into his small cooking area where he had many pots full of delicious smelling concoctions all cooking at once! As we made our way around the market, Joaquin expertly picked out items we would need to prepare a traditional Guatemalan dish called Pepian. We also sampled various fresh fruits and a delectable treat made with fresh figs, vanilla and cinnamon. We left the market and headed to Jocotenango. Joaquin set up the cooking school, Cuscun, in his home which was a very short distance from the market. He had a cooking area downstairs and one upstairs on his beautifully decorated rooftop. The view was spectacular! We could see Aqua Volcano and the surrounding town of Jocotenango. We met the third person of their team, Ingrid, who got us started on making Pepian. We also made tostadas with the fresh ingredients from the market. Ingrid spoke Spanish and Fernando expertly translated everything into English. We had done a couple of other tours and activities before the cooking school, and by far, it was the best experience of our whole trip! It was just the two of us in the class so we had a very personal experience and made 3 new friends! We will do this again when we go back to Guatemala and we can’t say enough good things about Joaquin, Fernando, and Ingrid! The whole experience was muy bueno!!!!!I truly enjoyed this class!
