What a fantastic journey with Mario for us three old ladies! Returning from Galapagos, we had a night at a local hotel with a late flight next day. Arranged for Mario to pick us up at hotel; we were not sure what we wanted to do. Asked for an authentic Panama Hat store; Mario got us in to a local Panama Hat FACTORY! They made our custom hats while we waited and all at a super price! We then asked for typical local lunch; Mario recommended crab, a local favorite. While we ate a fantastic crab feast, also reasonably priced, Mario shared lots of local info and history. This helped us decide what to do next, including a visit to the local park filled with friendly iguanas and the cathedral, among other city highlights. Mario was great; we loved his easy style and flexibility. Well worth the money! We had been to Guayaquil before visiting the Galapagos but had a long layover on the way home. We had been to Guayaquil before visiting the Galapagos but had a long layover on the way home. Mario met us promptly at the airport and even greeted us with cold waters and a snack. We told Mario what we had already seen and what we still wanted to see. He was very personable and polite and helped with both luggage and translation :-) We did some souvenir shopping and saw all the sightseeing spots on our list. He also took us to a local restaurant and we had a wonderful meal. He was extremely knowledgeable and one of the best guides we had on the trip. I would definitely recommend him to either the experienced or novice traveler.Mario Fuentes of My Trip to Ecuador Day Tours reminds me of the “go-to” person that each U.S. embassy and consulate finds to guide visiting members of Congress and other important officials. Mario Fuentes of My Trip to Ecuador Day Tours reminds me of the “go-to” person that each U.S. embassy and consulate finds to guide visiting members of Congress and other important officials. His English is excellent, he is flexible, and he knows how to read personalities and anticipate needs. He is well-read and conversant, not just about history and culture, but also current economic and political developments. In short, he will help you get the most of your time in Guayaquil. We had an 8-hour layover in Guayaquil on a recent return trip from the Galapagos Islands, so we arranged with Mario Fuentes for one of his “layover tours.” We contacted Mario directly (contact info can be found on the Trip Advisor page for My Trip to Ecuador Day Tours), which facilitated sketching out a plan and arranging his meeting us at the airport. Mario responded quickly to our e-mails and texts for final coordination, and he met us at the airport. After loading our carry-on luggage on his SUV and briefly going over the plan, we headed for Puerto Santa Ana, walked through Las Peñas, climbed up Cerro Santa Ana, went shopping at the arts and crafts market, had delightfully romantic dinner at a traditional restaurant, went shopping for chocolate and coffee in Samborondon, and got back to the airport with plenty time to catch our flight. My wife and I had spent a couple of days in Guayaquil on the way to the Galapagos, and years ago we had traveled to Quito and followed Ecuadorian political and economic developments for work. So, we appreciated that while driving or walking, Mario pointed out interesting sites and answered all our questions. His range is impressive: history, culture, customs, political developments, social issues, and, of course, economic issues. Thanks to Mario, we not only completed our tourist and shopping agendas for Guayaquil and had a great meal, but we found that, contrary to its reputation, Guayaquil was a surprisingly attractive and pleasant city. Also, we left feeling that we had a sense of the city and were better informed about Ecuador.Mario personalised a tour of the city for my family on our way back from the Galapagos. Mario personalised a tour of the city for my family on our way back from the Galapagos. We had a great 5 hours touring around in a small air-conditioned minibus, and got to see things most tourists wouldn't encounter - like the giant papier mache effigies being built in preparation for New Year's Eve bonfires. He even organised a meal at authentic local restaurant so we could celebrate my son's birthday prior to the long flight home. Mario was a genuinely nice guy, and we learned a lot about Guayaquil and Ecuador from him. Highly recommended.Mario was a phenomenal guide!!! Mario was a phenomenal guide!!! He made our layover a fun adventure, with an incredible trip to a Cacao Farm & a taste of the local cuisine. He picked us up from the airport, dropped us back off at the airport, & he even walked us to the American Airlines counter to speak in Spanish for us, when we received notification our flight was cancelled. I would give him 10 stars if I could! I Highly recommend Mario & this layover tour! LauraWhat a wonderful time my family had touring the beautiful city of Guayaquil with Ninfa. She was absolutely the perfect guide! Her knowledge of the city and history was remarkable and had an infectious spirit. My only regret was that we did not have more time to explore a cocoa farm. Next time!!
