Great estate with a pittoresque traditional armagnac pot still and a beautiful craft plant surrounded by a peaceful tropical garden and a beautiful villa on the beach if you want to stay few days on site. The tour starts with a Vietnamese twisted Mojito served by Jacques the Rhumelier who provides a very technical and friendly introduction of the rhum making process hand in hand with rich historical info about Rhum. A tasting at the Rhum tiki bar of the three white rhums will conclude the tour in a very friendly atmosphere. The Sampan distillery is about 25-30 minutes driving distance from Hoi An, in a somewhat nondescript cul de sac off the road. The Sampan distillery is about 25-30 minutes driving distance from Hoi An, in a somewhat nondescript cul de sac off the road. It might be a little difficult recognizing it from the road, but as you walk further into the courtyard you will see the big yellow characteristic building boasting a big sign that reads "DISTILLERIE INDOCHINE." An open-air bar can be seen at the far end. Sampan is a rising rum distillery in Vietnam breaking out of its infancy, and rising to fame with its earned international medals. Jacques walked us through the facility, detailing the process of producing their rum in easy-to-understand terms that even a layperson would comprehend. Besides enjoying rum with the casual night life scene, I really didn't know anything about the intricacies of rum. This tour was highly informative, and I've gained a greater appreciation of rum. The founders have instilled much of their passion into their product. Of particular interest, they sport a local flair of using sugarcane from the nearby Quang Nam province, which makes this rum unique to me. For someone naive to rum prior to arrival, I was able to pick out the complexities of their different rums and develop my own preferences thanks to their education. The people at Sampan are amiable, but also professional. Jacques answered all of my stupid questions without judgment which helped me walk over to the rum side even more. At the end, he was so kind as to get a taxi for us when we were ready to leave. My boyfriend and I are very excited to see their hard work come into further fruition in the years to come, and we hope to see this label break out of Vietnam and become more commercialized! VERY pleasant, chill learning experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves rum or to anyone willing to learn more about it. This is certainly a novelty you ought to add to your itinerary if you're visiting the area!Antione was excellent host and has a clear passion for what he is doing. Is was great to see a boutique distillery in Hoi An.

A must-visit that I would highly recommend to my alcoholic friends. My boyfriend and I requested for the tour through facebook as the website is presently iffy. While the distillery is located slightly further away from central Hoi An, it is still accessible - a quick 20 mins drive away. When we arrived, we were greeted by owner Antoine and his puppy. Antoine was hospitable and friendly. He made us a welcome cocktail, before bringing us around his distillery and sharing with us his journey, the distillation process, and some fun facts about rhum vs rum. Thereafter, we had a tasting session where we tried 5 different types of rhum, including his prized aged rhum and the multi-award winning rhum. This experience was truly insightful, yummy, fun, and memorable. Thanks Antoine & we wish you and your partners/team sampan all the success to come!
