This was really fantastic and really exceeded my expectations. You meet your tour guide at the fortress - we were the only two people on the tour, and he was incredible. He took us 30 minutes to the canyon, he showed us a restaurant and took us through all of the history on the tour. We sat and had a coffee. Our tour guide (so sorry I have forgotten his name, but he looked cool, had his left ear pierced and had children),asked us if we wanted to do the boat tour - which we did, it was around £5, for an hour - how good is that! The pictures we took within the canyon were incredible, we were shown the caves, walked through to see them under the water. Our tour guide then took us back to the city, and any questions we had asked in relation to the history, he had a great answer for them. It really opens your eyes to the life of Macedonia, and we had learnt so much in a short space of 4 hours. Really really recommended, don’t forget to tip your tour guides! The driver was good and there was also plenty of spare time. Does not include any other spots (churches, millennium cross etc.) Basically you pay for the car ride and some basic information. Matka canyon itself (with the added boat ride) was beautiful!

I would love to spend more time hiking in canyon on another hand than visiting the churches 😊

The driver guide was knowledgeable about Macedonia, but we were disappointed to not have any free time at the canyon after our boat tour. The boat tour to the caves was beautiful, but we left directly to spend an hour at the monastery. We assumed from the tour description that we would have an hour to hike or enjoy the views from the restaurant.
