This was the absolute perfect horseback riding excursion for my husband and me. I really wanted to try out horseback riding (my first time!) but my husband had had a negative horse experience in childhood and was highly skeptical. I chose this excursion because (a) it was one of the only short/half-day options that I could find. Many others were either a full day or multi-day, which is not what I was after and (b) the promise of the meal at the end. I figured even if he didn’t have a good time on the horse, maybe the asado lunch would make up for it. This excursion is run by a family who has been living on their ranch for about 100 years and in the beautiful dining room you can learn about their family history, which was nice. They are so friendly and warm and welcoming. It’s located about 20 minutes from Bariloche, and you will need a car to get there, but you can also arrange that they pick you up in town, which was very helpful. Upon arrival at the ranch, we were warmly greeted by the family and met the others in our group (another couple and their 4 year old son). It was nice that it was a small group. They gave us a quick orientation and got us all suited up with helmets and a little bag for a phone. I would recommend taking the bag because I used my own belt bag and it got a bit dusty. Then we mounted our horses and were off on our ride. We rode for about 2 hours through the family’s property, which is located within the national park. Their dogs ran alongside us and frequently chased the wild hares. After a short stop at the top of the mountain, we made our way back. On the way back the horses picked up to a trot which was fun. The nice thing about horseback riding is that it’s similar to hiking, but you don’t have to worry about where your feet will go and you can just look around and enjoy the scenery. I really felt like I was immersed in the moment and it was amazing. When we got back, we were provided with an amazing lunch. I had pre-ordered the vegetarian option and my husband loved his asado. Along with delicious vegetables, breads, wine, and an incredible dessert crepe, this was one of the best meals of our entire trip. We both absolutely loved the entire day and I would absolutely recommend this excursion to anyone. The horses were very calm with me, a first time rider, and also with the little boy in the other family. We went on a Monday, and it was nice that it was a small group, but I’m not sure if it would be a bigger group on a weekend. They have about 20 horses in the property.Excellent family run establishment. One of the highlights of our trip. Very pretty scenery and horses. Delicious lunch! Highly recommend!
