Plenty of stalls open within the main area sheltered under its large warehouse-like structure. Although it carries ‘traditional’ in its name, the market is clean and modernized. There are around 150 stands neatly lining its white ceramic-tiled lanes. They offer everything from fresh fruits to vegetables and spices. Others sell flowers and young coconut leaves for daily Hindu Balinese offerings. Surrounding this central row of stalls are separate kiosks. Each offers kitchen utensils and household tools, batiks and other traditional textiles. Several warungs (small food stalls) sell nasi campur mixed rice, refreshments and cold drinks. You can be sure to enjoy cheap, local prices here.

It's mostly famous as a place for surfing with 2 famous beaches : Echo Beach, world class wave and Batu Bolong also known as Old Man which is the ideal spot for beginners, longboards and funboards.Those 2 beaches are reef breaks.The sand is black on the 2 beaches, but it's also a nice place to rest and watch the surfers. In the past year Batu Bolong has became a super trendy place with many young European hanging out in the evening. The new atmosphere reminds a bit of Ubud, but with the surf as a background.

A perfect way to see Bali and get an idea of the island from the beginning of a trip. We say Gates of Heaven, famous rice terraces Tegalalang, an water temple Tirta Empul, several markets for handicrafts and some other hidden gems of Bali. We actually booked our guide again for the private tour of North Bali the next day, because it's so much fun to have a local friend and a guide same time :)LinetteWard
