As a family of four, 2 adults 1 teen and a 5yr old, we all thoroughly enjoyed this day trip around the island of Sal. We were collected at 9am and not dropped back until around 4.30pm! Our tour guide Djon, was nothing short of exceptional. He allowed us to take as long as we wished at each stop with no rushing. He showed us places of interest that no other guide were stopping at. We had some lovely photographs taken at a really reasonable price. Just remember to take your water shoes if you have them, if not you can hire them. All in all, we had an amazing time and we would highly recommend. Great value for money. The tour is great if you want to see Sal. The sharks and the salt lake is a cool experience. We were picked up on time by our guide John who turned out to be a great, knowledgeable and funny who also took great care of us and the other tourists.I think if there is 35000 people on the island John knows 34999 of them!First to see the salt flats and an explanation of how it had shaped the history of the island in the past and there was actually somebody working their at the time although it is not such a viable proposition today. Then on to Kite beach which is quite a spectacle a hundred or more in quite a small area all at once with coloured kites filling the sky made for some great pictures.A short stop at Murdeira for the views of Lion mountain and then on to the Blue eye and the stunning coastline around it a great opportunity for some great pics from the viewpoint on the headland,it turned out John is also a handy photographer and eager to help you get the best pics at one point actually climbing down part of the cliff to get a great perspective! Then on into the desert where in the middle there is a small bar come gift shop very reasonably priced where you can try some of the local alcohol and look back at the mirage effect. On to a local fishing town where we saw colourfully painted murals on the houses, fish being prepared and had a wander round, the kids in the Disney pre school wear on break and excited to see us all smiles and laughter.Lunch was next we decided on Johns recommendation to have the mixed fish grill which was great and reasonably priced in a newish restaurant, good food, clean and good service also very reasonably priced. The Lemon Shark experience was enjoyable but unfortunately at the time we arrived there was also many others their which diminished it a little but as all the tours are random it was just the luck that day.It was still enjoyable and i managed to get within a few feet of them and have some great pictures, beautiful creatures. And last the salt mine, you go through a tunnel which took 4 years to dig by hand into the massive caldera where the salt flats and pools are.We swam or tried to in the salt lake but the bouyancy makes it a fun experience and you literally have to crawl out of the water as it is hard to push your legs down.I don't think it took 10 years of my looks but you can't have everything. Then back to the hotel a 15 minute drive,we had more like 8 hours than the 6 advertised so even better.A great day out, nice and relaxed with lots of laughs.Again i must really mention John the guide who made the day with knowledge, jokes and a great relaxed attitude and the great photos he tookThis trip exceeded all our expectations! This trip exceeded all our expectations! We were picked up at the hotel by Djon, a great guide with lots of knowledge about his island and about Kap Verde in general (although he didn't like the wind). Photographer Sallam took excellent pictures which we were offered to buy on a cd. We went throught Santa Maria on the way to our first stop, a salt mine just outside town. Next stop allowed us to see kite-surfers and then we went on to bar Mirage where we could taste the domestic drink, grogue. After that we stopped at a place where we could se the blue eye and swim in a natural pool in the sea. Next stop the fishing village Murdeira and then a great lunch in Espargos. Onwards to another salt mine where we could swim in a salt pool. Finally we went to see lemon sharks in their natural setting, before we were brought back to the hotel. We were four, two 50+ and two adolescents (19 & 21) and we all enjoyed the trip equally. On the down side I have to mention that the entrance fee to the blue eye and the rent of shoes at the sharks wasn't included, and not mentioned in the booking information, which was a minor annoyment since we didn't bring enough money. But in summary this is a trip that we truly can reccomend!
