The Day trip started from Brighton and the bus journey took us through the scenic beauty of Arudel and reached Portsmouth were we had time to visit the old ship, spinnakar tower and to do shopping at GunwrafQuay. Ferry trip to the Isle was a nice experience. We reached the isle to see the thatched cottages and the Model village at Godshill. We also visited the medieval All Saints' Church, at Godshill. Next was our final destination to Alumbay beach where we had the needles isle of wight. All together it was a day packed with different attractions.Special mention to the guid Gerry and driver Liam who took us safe and on time to all the attractions.Beautiful place to visit, well organised tour. Gerry was a great guide, comfortable bus and good experience. Definitely recommended.

We’ve been on many bus tours in UK and other countries and know well what one can expect in terms of learning a lot of history and about the area, etc. on these types of tours. However, this tour wasn’t like that and we didn’t realize that it was only to be about going to the Needles and not at all about the island. IT WAS A VERY LONG 10 HOUR DAY—most of it was spent driving on the bus, looking out the window as the island flew by. Too bad…we had really looked forward to this trip to the Isle of Wight. There were stops to pick up other people and a stop at a mall for the bathroom on the way to catch the ferry. We were advised by the guide to pick up food while there (or on the ferry) to eat on the island because “the food on the island is hit or miss”. We didn’t find that to be true. We saw lots of good food on the island, and the food we had was delicious (it was a charming, lovely outdoor cream tea), so we ended up taking home the sandwiches we had bought at the mall. (The islanders count on tourists for their income.) After the ferry landed, we traveled to a cute tiny town Godshill to eat our lunches (with an option to walk up a hill to view a church). After that, we had that very long, quiet ride to the other side of the island to see the Needles—our guide missed great opportunities to tell us all about the island, history, people, architecture, or point out/explain what we were seeing, etc. The Needles landform was the tour’s sole purpose—and what a disappointment to discover that it was pretty much the main reason for the trip. There weren’t any other stops around the island, nor did we learn much about the island. Our guide seemed disinterested in the island and was all about getting us to and from the Needles, and we really felt we missed out. For example, were told about Lord Tennyson’s home AFTER we had driven past it. It would have been nice to know about it in advance or to even do a brief stop so we could take photos—even through the bus windows. Surely, there must have been other things we could have seen, learned, or visited there on the way to and from the Needles. Be aware that more personal expense is expected at the Needles. We quickly realized that if we didn’t go ahead and pay for extra things at the Needles, that the Isle of Wight trip wouldn’t be worthwhile. The extras included the chair lift ride to the bottom of the cliff, a short boat ride to the Needles on a fast or slow boat, and then a chair lift ride back up again to the entrance, where there was a little souvenir shopping along with some little places to buy food and treats. The crowds were incredible and the lines were very long for the chairlift. Our guide stressed over and over that if we were late, we would be left behind to find our own way back! (We had seen a review written by woman had been left behind all alone with her children, and she talked about the expense and her struggle to get back on her own with her little ones.) We were too scared to risk that because of a flight home. Of course, you can always do a very economical walk down the nearly 200 steps to the bottom to take the boats to the Needles or dip your toes in the water, and then walk back up again. (I wouldn’t advise that method if you have arthritis or knee issues. We tried doing that, but it was very painful…and we saw other knee pain people struggling with those steps.) SOOO…we couldn’t risk being late and left behind by waiting for the chairlift and boats—AND we couldn’t walk the 200 stairs because of knee issues. So that meant that we had no choice but to go down a few of the steps to peek at the Needles far off in the distant water. That’s it. That’s when we sadly realized that the whole day and the whole trip was only about getting to this stop. What a waste for us unfortunately. If you can’t get to the bottom of the cliff for the boat ride to the Needles for any reason—or if you fear being left behind because of the crowds at the chairlift and boat—then the whole trip is for naught. If you don’t really care about about the rest of the island, this trip includes a ferry ride to the island as well as a long bus trip that will get you safely to the Needles and back again. Of course, there is that lunch break in Godshill in the middle. Just don’t be late.Well organized tour, friendly guides, with plenty of time to explore the isle on your own between the stops.
