Stop At: Passyunk Avenue, Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Passyunk Avenue is a neighborhood at the heart of South Philly. We'll visit a Jewish bakery, talk about the hidden history of the invention of the Philly cheesesteak, discuss Philly's culture of public art, and get to know a lesser-known part of South Philly.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Washington Avenue, Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Once home to industrial warehouses, Washington Avenue has become a dividing line for the city and is home to some of our favorite restaurants in the city. We'll visit a legendary Vietnamese bakery and a longstanding Mexican restaurant with some of the best tacos in the city.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Italian Market, 9th Street from Wharton to Fitzwater Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19147
One of the longest continually operating outdoor markets in the United States, where locals still do their shopping and lots of restaurants source ingredient. You'll hear stories of the businesses in this area, and visit a fourth generation Italian bakery, a new-school Jewish appetizing store, and have a little time to shop in the market. We'll end with a glass of wine from a limited-edition series of wine made support from one of the Italian Market's oldest businesses.

My husband and I have recently started taking in food and culture tours on our vacations. These have been very high quality, so I was disappointed that we didn't have anything like them in our own area. That made it exciting when my daughter told us about this new local company offering similar tours here in Philadelphia. The South Philadephia walking tour by Maddy met the high standards set by Culinary Backstreets and other food tours we've done in the US and internationally. The food was quirky and super-delicious and we hadn't been to any of the bakeries, restaurants or others, even though we eat out a lot and we've visited the Italian Market before. I especially liked how the food stops were mingled with her insights into context about individual owners, immigrant culture, lots of Philadelphia history we still hadn't heard after living here 30+ years, colorful local gossip, and lots of suggestions for further exploration. The amount of food was just right for me (enough for lunch and drinkns plus some solid dessert and snacks, all paced so I didn't fill up, which is a problem for me.) We walked enough for a good day out without being fatigued (we're boomers, but the rest of the 10 or so on the tour were 20's to early 40's at most). Would definitely take other tours with Tiny Table if they offer them.I'm not someone who gets into group activities but this was really fun and interesting. Even as a Philly native, I learned a lot and tried spots I'd never tried before. Great way to spend a few hours during an afternoon!

This tour is great for people visiting, locals and everyone in between.
