We spent over 5 hrs at the Jamestown Settlement and 4 hrs at the American Revolution Museum. We love history and there is so much to read and soak up. The two days we spent at these two places were a couple of the best days of our traveling adventures. If you love learning more about the beginning of US History, these two places have to be on your "visit list"!!!The museum, settlement, and ships are worth the admissions cost. The museum, settlement, and ships are worth the admissions cost. The museum has engaging exhibits for kids & adults. The 4d theater experience for bacons rebellion was theme park grade. Plan for at least 1 hour to see the whole museum. The native settlement and fort were well staffed and had several active demonstrations, from cooking, hunting, musket firing, and more. The ships were the busiest attraction and had a line to enter, due to limited space. I would plan for 30 minutes for each of the three areas, the ship, native area, and fort. It became crowded by 11am with several school groups. We had a great day at Jamestown. The museum, the Powhatan village and the replicas of the ships that brought the settlers to Jamestown are excellent. We had a great day at Jamestown. The museum, the Powhatan village and the replicas of the ships that brought the settlers to Jamestown are excellent. In addition the settlement area has authentic replicas of buildings that were present during this time period. Those who work at the settlement, the Powhatan Village and the replica ships are great about answering questions. The American Revolution Museum is almost overwhelming with written explanations of events that led up to the revolution through the surrender of Cornwallis. There are several artifacts that are very interesting, but if you want to read all of the information in the various galleries you will need to spend most of the day there. The Continental Army Encampment and Revolutionary era farm located outside of the museum are very good, but not as good as Jamestown.Be sure to check out the original settlement as well as the reproduction. There are ships, the fort and, Powhatan village. All with historical actors that will talk with you about life back then.

I went there as a kid and had an expectation. I think they should put more emphasis on the outside experience and less on all the galleries. There could have been so much more of characters talking about life in the 1600's in the new settlement. I felt there were missed opportunities. I did like seeing the models of 2 of the 3 ships!!This was a most extraordinary experience. Even my kids who moaned and groaned about going to a “museum” had the most amazing time. It really brought colonial America to life and is perfect for all ages. I definitely recommend and wish we could spend more than one day there.
