Jungle Mountain Bike Adventures
Overview
We will ride approximately 15 km, exploring the coastline and hills near the town Montezuma by bicycle, one of the greenest and most invigorating ways to travel! The route is mostly on rocky and gravel roads, with a few singletracks and rock croppings.
Also, the ride will be lead by a former professional mountain biker (2 time world champion) and long time local resident, who can point out many sights and animals that many tourists miss.
Inclusions
- Use of bicycle
- optional helmet
What to expect

Pass By: Cabo Blanco, Cabo Blanco, Province of Puntarenas
We will meet in Montezuma's adorable "downtown" for bike fitting & safety check. We provide the mountain bikes and helmets (we carry the tools). Then we'll gently roll out together on our awesome signature route. It's relatively flat, follows the coastline, but we will pull out at a few of our "secret spots".
Experienced guide and longtime cyclist Marla will be leading the ride. If desired, she can stop occasionally to point out interesting stuff, offer riding tips (if you like) and otherwise customize your experience to make it memorable. Of course, the group always stays together!
As we head back to Montezuma, we can grab a couple cool pictures... and maybe even grab a cold one together to cap off a great ride!
You will get to see a special slice of Costa Rica's finest: beautiful rugged beaches, hidden world class surf breaks, ancient tropical trees, and secret waterfalls.
Stop At: Isla de Cabuya, Cabuya, Montezuma Costa Rica
Cabuya Island is one of those magical spots that most people see from the road, but few people manage to approach. It’s a place of legend, rumor, and excitement, supposedly haunted by ghosts at night, due to the fact that it’s been a cemetery for as long as anyone can remember. Also, it happens to have some of the best snorkeling around, and you can even see much of the wildlife (like Pufferfish, etc) without a snorkel.
If it is low tide during our tour, we can actually ride our bikes onto the island!
Duration: 15 minutes
Stop At: Cedros, Cedros, Province of Puntarenas
Near Playa Cedros (which we will see on our journey) is the stunning Playa Las Rocas.
This beach has two sandy beaches and a fresh water river-mouth with a rope-swing.
Playa las Rocas has a “whale’s tail” rock formation, and it’s a lot of fun to scamper around and take photos on these colorful rocks.
In front of the rocks is one of the best snorkeling areas, popular among spear-fishermen and lobster-catchers. Many Tico families come here and park under the coconut trees, and some often catch the family’s lunch or dinner.
Duration: 10 minutes

We had an awesome time on our bikes thanks to Marla who really adapted the ride to our skill level. During the ride we visit Marla pointed out some very nice places/spots which we would not be able to find ourselves normally. We really enjoyed and it was a really awesome ride!

We had an awesome time with Marla. She was warm, encouraging and knowledgeable, and with her amazing pro biking history, and cool humility, was immediately admired and respected by our tween and teen boys ( and us!). The ride was beautiful - along the coastal track, over rocks jutting into the ocean, visiting a beautiful river and an ancient tree, brilliant for climbing. Marla encouraged us to try challenges ( our kids), but supported us in taking the easy option (me!), and it was a great balance of exhilarating and relaxing. Marla is a brilliant role model, and a lovely person and this trip will be one of the much talked about highlights of our holiday in Costa Rica.My wife and I were looking for something a little more active and adventurous for our last day in Montezuma, and this was a perfect fit (and excellent value). My wife and I were looking for something a little more active and adventurous for our last day in Montezuma, and this was a perfect fit (and excellent value). The mountain bikes were nice, and we took a scenic tour south down along the coast-line, all the way to Cabo Blanco national park. It was mostly flat, but between the little hills, Marla's "bonus sections" and just the excitement of taking it all in, we arrived back in town ready for a big meal! We plan on doing this again on our next visit, maybe attempt one of the longer tours ;)We had a fabulous time from beginning to end, and our guide Marla really curated the ride route according to our skill level (total beginners). We had a fabulous time from beginning to end, and our guide Marla really curated the ride route according to our skill level (total beginners). We traveled along the amazing coastline, and stopped at a few hidden spots which included a dip in a crystal clear river. We were also lucky to tour during low tide, so we rode the "land bridge" to Cabyua island. We had to hurry back before the waters rose, so there was plenty of adventure for our two teenagers!I was looking for something else fun do to do in Montezuma besides the waterfall and this bike ride turned out to be a great choice. I was looking for something else fun do to do in Montezuma besides the waterfall and this bike ride turned out to be a great choice. Marla was a great host and very knowledgeable of the area. This would be a great thing to do at the beginning of your stay in Montezuma because Marla shares tons of great suggestions on extra hiking, surfing and snorkeling spots. I would also recommend contacting Marla before if you are flexible on the time so you can do the bike ride on the land bridge out to the island during low tide.Excellent tour! We rode along the coast and visited some “off the beaten path” spots, including one pretty and refreshing waterfall. We were the only ones there.
