"Kabbalah" is the mysterious and historically secretive side of Judaism. For millennia little information was available to the public regarding these ideas. In the 16th century, the city of Zefat/Safed became the known as capital of these teachings. Many known Kabbalists taught here. Amongst those that have significant sites include, Rabbi Moshe Cordivero, The "Alkabetz", The Holy Ari "Isaac Luria".
In addition to Kabbalistic tradition, the city of Zefat/Safed was home to the author of the most authoritative book on Jewish Religious law, the "Shulchan Aruch", by Rabbi Yosef Cairo.

If you came to Sefad to understand the place as the cradle of modern Kabbalah and you want to feel the holiness and uniqueness of the place, I can think of no better guide than Rabbi Kopel. He knows all about the buildings, the Torah scrolls, and the adornments of the synagogue buildings, but the real joy is learning about the lives of the great Kabbalists and scholars who elevated the city to historic status. His knowledge is deep and vast and based on personal experience. If you want to go the third step, past the historical, ask Rabbi Kopel about the essential teachings of Kabbalah. He is generous with his knowledge. Wear comfortable shoes.Rabbi Kopel came to us highly recommended from a friend and did not disappoint. He was passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and very energetic. If you’re in tzfat and you’re looking to deepen your understanding of the complex history of the land, Rabbi Kopel should be your guide!!

I cannot recommend this tour enough. Every minute of the tour was valuable and meaningful! I truly gained a different understanding of what makes Tzfat a mystical city and felt a deeper connection to it at the end. Also, Rabbi Kaplan was careful to point out all those places we should go without him after the tour where we wouldn't need a guide and in doing so helped us not only to find other attractions in Tzfat but also to maximize the time of our tour.
