Moshi is a small town with a hidden treasure of experiences. Before or after your Kilimanjaro climb I will introduce you to a real Kilimanjaro Organic Coffee Tasting Experience. It is just a walking distance from your hotel, we will visit a new small organic coffee enterprise with a unique business model. On arrival, you will be invited by Kilimanjaro Cofee Aroma before I start explaining the real experience of organic coffee. We will move to a Roasting Room and see the roasting process, then grinding, parking and thereafter labelling. I will explain to you how coffee is also mixed with other spices from Zanzibar. You will then get an opportunity to taste Kilimanjaro Organic Coffee for free, this is quite an experience. I will also explain to you how the business model is a life saving for local communities in rural areas where organic coffee is cultivated. It was very interesting to see the small coffee factory and to learn about the different steps it takes from coffee plant to a cup of coffee. The guide and machine operator were both very nice and knowledgeable and it was fascinating to see how every step from roasting to packaging is done by a small team in the same building. There was some confusion around the offered hotel pick up. We had assumed that this would be by car as we had double-checked total duration of the tour with Viator beforehand and had informed them that we would need to be back at the hotel for airport transfer by a specific time. However, when the tour guide arrived it turned out that the transfer would not be by car but by foot. As we did not have time to walk ca. 5km from the hotel to the factory and back we had to pay $10 extra for transport by car. Please also note that you do not see the Union Café when you book hotel pick up, but you would need to visit it separately before or after the tour. Apart from that it was a good tour and I would book one like that any time again, maybe then a longer one which also includes visiting places where the coffee is grown and seeing a coffee farm. I would probably ask the hotel directly for tour recommendations then as they are the local experts.SaschaRohner

We just came back from a coffee tour with Eli and Max. Firstly, we walked with Eli through the city of Moshi to the roastery and he provided us with a lot of information about local life and customs. The way back we had a fun tuktuk ride. Arriving at the roastery, we learned everything of the process from harvesting of the fruit to the ground coffee. We saw and touched the beans at the different stages and enjoyed a live roasting. We talked about auction strategies (it‘s like poker), the global coffee market, starbucks and much more. Max was so knowledgeable and willing to share his treasure of knowhow. We could feel his passion in every sentence and we highly recommend joining on of the tours while you are in Moshi
