Stop At: The Palace of Knossos, Knosos, Crete 714 09 Greece
Knossos, the heart of the Minoan civilization, lies 5 km southeast of Heraklion, in the valley of the river Kairatos. Crete’s most famous historical attraction, he site is considered to be the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on the island and is referred to as the oldest city in Europe. Knossos was first inhabited by a Neolithic settlement in the seventh century BC. It stayed inhabited for several thousands of years until it was finally abandoned in 1375 BC after its destruction, which marked the end of Minoan civilisation. In 1878, the first large-scale excavation was undertaken by the wealthy art-lover Minos Kalokairinos, while Crete was still under Turkish occupation. This was followed by the long-term excavations (1900-1913 and 1922-1930) of Sir Arthur Evans, who uncovered the whole surrounding area of Knossos.

Thanasis and Christine were the best guides we ever had. I asked if they could pick us up at airport, answer was a fast yes. They met us on time and greeted us with a cold beverage. We were hungry after Knossos, and the gave us a fantastic snack. They were insightful and fun to chat with. When in Crete again I will seek them out. My 19 year old son said that they made this tour the highlight of our trip. Highly recommend them to anyone going to Crete.I read great reviews and decided to book a tour with Christine. I read great reviews and decided to book a tour with Christine. We were group of 8 and the minibus was large and comfortable for the group. She was at the cruise port waiting for us so we can start our tour right away. On the way to the Knossos Palace, Christine explained us about Crete: history, culture, food and wine with nice videos. It was nice 2 hour drive - Thanasis is a great driver to safely take us around the island. The guide, Thalia, is an excellent guide who is very passionate and knowledgeable. She showed us the highlights in the Palace and the museum to maximize our experience in the limited time. On the way back, we stopped in a Venetian town, Chania, to see the beautiful sea side town and did some shopping. We would like to come back and ask her to take us to the Olive oil farm and have a dinner in Chania next time! They provided nice local pastry and refreshments. All of us enjoyed the tour!I had a wonderful experience working with Christine at Sea by Bus Explore Crete and highly recommend her tour company! I had a wonderful experience working with Christine at Sea by Bus Explore Crete and highly recommend her tour company! Christine’s warmth and friendliness was readily evident in all of our correspondence. Her responses to my inquires were always prompt. I ultimately booked all of our tours and transfers though Sea by Bus. With Christine’s guidance, we created a truly memorable trip for my family. I strongly encourage you to reach out to Christine so you can create a wonderful, personalized experience for you as well! Private tour to Knossos Palace This was a wonderful experience. During the drive from Chania to Knossos Palace there were videos discussing Crete history, and well as a brief lesson in some basic Greek words. Christine shared what life was like in Crete. The guide selected by Christine for our tour was informative and enthusiastic. The visit to the site was followed by independent visit to the museum. The tour originally included a stop in nearby Heraklion. However, Christine gave us the opportunity to modify our itinerary from a visit to “a big city” (Heraklion) for something that was more personal for us. The day began with a stop at restaurant at a village for Greek coffee and some traditional snacks (yogurt with bergamot & a traditional flat pastry with cheese inside) while enjoying a view of a lake and countryside. During the ride back to our hotel we had a stop at a facility that processes olives from local growers. It was informative and concluded with an opportunity to taste olive oil from different types of olives and the different ways it can be processed. (Yes, you can taste the difference!)Our experience with Cristina and her driver was genuinely exceptional. Our experience with Cristina and her driver was genuinely exceptional. Their unparalleled friendliness and remarkable attention to detail ensured our every need was anticipated and met. We learned a lot throughout the tour - and enjoyed every moment. It was one of the most luxurious vans we have traveled in, it included charging ports, pillows, safe driving, and drinks, and the air conditioning was great (important for us Americans). I also greatly appreciate their recommendation of using a tour guide in Knossos. Talia was energetic, entertaining, and was so informed. We learned so much more from her than if we tried to go on it ourselves. She made it all come alive for us. The Archeology Museum was fascinating, and it was great to put it all together - and keep an eye out for the things Talia recommended/explained to us during the tour. We skipped Heraklion City and instead went to Rethymno, which should be part of the tour. It was a beautiful city we would have never visited, filled with excellent shops, restaurants, and historic sites. We (four of us) wholeheartedly recommend this tour. It stands among the finest we have experienced. Their assistance extended beyond the time itself, as they kindly provided us with invaluable recommendations for dining options the following day. We highly recommend availing yourself of their expertise and attentively heeding their suggestions. You get every penny worth! Cannot recommend more.
