Stop At: Kotor Old City, Stari grad, Kotor, Kotor Municipality 85330 Montenegro
Kotor is situated in the most secluded part of Boka Kotorska (The Bay of Kotor). While it dates from the Illyrian period, Kotor developed into an important commercial and artistic center in the Middle Ages. Many empires battled for control over the city throughout the centuries: from being an autonomous city of the Byzantine Empire, free city of medieval Serbia, then under Venetian or Hungarian states, gaining independence and then returned to Venetian control once again, just to be occupied by France and then Austria, until Kotor finally became part of Yugoslavia. Kotor tour begins at the main gate of the Old Town, also known as the Sea Gate (Morska vrata), where you will meet our guide.

My tour guide was Petra. She really loves and enjoys history. Wish my history teachers in school were even as fraction as interested in history as Petra is. She gave a wonderful summary of Kotor and then the Montenegrin culture. In addition to things she had to explain you could also ask her additional questions about the history, culture and arts. I would recommend that the first thing you do when you arrive in Kotor is do this trip. With this you have enough knowledge to plan the rest of your stay and activities in Kotor. Petra motivated me to try the Kotor Ladder/ the city wall (the one that takes about 40 mins to an hour - for people who are not circuit runners like her). And it was amazing. Thank you Petra. You'll notice that sometimes the way she is describing some of the old paintings is such that you can "see" the painting in your mind. Amazing storytelling skills she has. Petra I wish you good luck for your future, and if you visit NL and plan on checking our van Gogh's work, do not stop at just the Van Gogh Museum, also check out the van Gogh gallery in Otterlo (near Arnhem/ Hoge Veluwe national park). The tour guide was Petra. The tour guide was Petra. You can tell that she really loves history. I wish there were history teachers like her back in school days. Anyway, in addition to talking about what she had in her agenda she also allowed for extra questions. She gave a very nice overview of Kotor and the different faiths, practices, and culture. I am glad I did this trip and that Petra was the tour guide.Thank you Jelena for an amazing tour! I supposed to be in a group, but organisers instead of canceling it surprised me with private one. Jelena was very passionate about history of Kotor and very informative. I didn't made many pictures as I was so focused on listening and just observing the places.

Unfortunately, it was very hot that day, very humid and very crowded as there were a large number of other tourists there in a very small area. On a cooler day, it may have been more fun.
