It was definitely a tour to remember. The churches we visited included :- Lalibela churches, Bilibala Qirqos church, Naakute Laab monasteru and many other in and around Lalibella. The sites were truly unique, and Dan was very insightful but also planned everything to perfection, took us to each places at the right times, when there were few people around but also showed us off the beaten trail to see all shades of the history and the friendly culture of the people inhabiting the area today. The day trip Trekking from Lalibela to Asheton monastery and Hudad lodge was magical and Dan was very caring with us. He also protected us from tourist traps and kindly explained us the ins and outs. Deeply recommend contracting his services. If you are planning a visit to Ethiopia, Lalibela, ancient home of the 900 year old world heritage Rock-Hewn Churches and the surrounding area, then Daniel of Dan Lalibela Tour Guide Services is your man. If you are planning a visit to Ethiopia, Lalibela, ancient home of the 900 year old world heritage Rock-Hewn Churches and the surrounding area, then Daniel of Dan Lalibela Tour Guide Services is your man. Here we have a safe pair of hands, born locally with an encyclopaedia of knowledge of the history and culture passed on by his late grandfather, a head priest of Saint Gabriel church. Daniel is entirely flexible and will tailor-make your package and itinerary to suit your needs, time and stamina. My wife and I spent 3 days in Lalibela, all-inclusive of transportation, accommodation, meals, entrance fees etc. Most importantly, I did not feel like a tourist, stuck in a hotel and whisked here and there, quite the opposite and experienced the real thing with no tour party, just the 3 of us and his good driver Silesh. Included in our trip was a few days in Addis Ababa beforehand, with the excellent services of a close associate, Gashaw and again, totally flexible in taking in the city highlights, Hailee Selassie palace, Entoto mountain, to name a few places of note. Lastly, a trip overnight to Wenchi crater lake, the highest volcano in Ethiopia would not be complete to see the unspoilt nature and natural beauty and wilderness of the countryside, a mere 3 hours’ drive from Addis. This is the true Africa at its best. This completed a week’s tour to satisfy some of the curiosity of Ethiopia, the only country in Africa, never colonised. Well worth it and more than a few highlights and tales to tell. I therefore highly recommend Daniel to arrange your programme with service with an honest smile and friendliness. I spent four days with Daniel and was very impressed with his knowledge in all areas--church history, geology, birds, even personal anecdotes as he grew up in the area. We visited the Lalibela churches, Yemrhane Kristos and St Nakutoleab cave churches, Genet Maryam church, and Asheton Maryam church as a hike from town. My favorite parts were the beautiful walk up to Asheton Maryam church (Daniel noticed how much I enjoyed it and we took a longer way back), attending a holiday service in the Lalibela churches, and joining Daniel and his very welcoming family for a holiday home-cooked lunch. I would highly recommend Daniel in all areas. We did the four-day tour of the 11 rock-hewn churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Yemrehana Krestos, Asheton Mariam monastery, and got an added bonus of seeing the busy marketplace of Lalibela on Saturday. We did the four-day tour of the 11 rock-hewn churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Yemrehana Krestos, Asheton Mariam monastery, and got an added bonus of seeing the busy marketplace of Lalibela on Saturday. Daniel is an amazing tour guide, very prompt, accommodating and knowledgeable. His English is also very good, so you can have meaningful conversations about what you are seeing. I was taken aback by his passion for and knowledge of the history of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. He even arranged for us to see and be blessed by the famous golden Lalibela cross. I am not religious, but it was a unique experience. My family and I were able to witness and understand how the churches are connected (tunnels, trenches, etc.), the architectural style and how it varies between them, and some of the history of Ethiopia (e.g. the Zagwe dynasty of which King Lalibela was a part). Daniel could explain everything you were looking at if you have a question. He was also very patient with us as we have kids, and helped arrange every accommodation possible for their wellbeing and safety. His connections also allowed the priests of every church we visited to speak with my family, some of whom are religious, more in depth about the religious aspects of the churches. Daniel is very well connected with the Lalibela community in terms of friendship with the locals and even family ties. As a more secular guy myself, my favorite part of the journey had to be the trek to Asheton Mary monastery, which involved gorgeous views, interactions with the locals, a breathtaking hike up amazing trails, and a semi-monolithic monastery. The views and the experience at such a high altitude were absolutely stunning. I also enjoyed seeing the incredibly packed marketplace selling all sorts of goods, including spices, teff, etc. I was also happy to finally ride in a tuk-tuk (the local taxi with three wheels). If you visit Lalibela or anywhere in the surrounding northern region of Ethiopia, you have to book Daniel. He knows Ethiopia and its history inside and out, and can ensure your entire trip runs smoothly and happily.Dani es un excelente guia, el hizo que mi plan en lalibela funcionara y aunque no tenia suficiente tiempo hizo una planificacion genial para conocer todo lo que queria.
