Ljubljana was awarded the UNESCO’s City of Literature status in 2015 and this tour proves it really does deserve it. You will visit gorgeous spots connected in various way with women writers – ancient, modern and contemporary – who have left a significant mark in Slovenian cultural history. You can expect incredible biographies, cool folk tale characters, feminist novels, free-verse poetry, lesbian short stories, anti-fascist attitude and much more! From historic printing houses to the best contemporary literary cafes; from fierce resistance of rebels to melancholic longing of lovers – this tour will take you places!

Stop At: Schweigerjeva House, Stari trg 11A, Ljubljana 1000 Slovenia

Home to one of the most important women writers of Ljubljana who challenged militaristic patriarchy both during monarchy and during communist times.

Stop At: National and University Library, Turjaska ulica 1, Ljubljana 1000 Slovenia

Architect Jože Plečnik's masterpiece understood through women's literary perspective.

Stop At: Hercules Fountain, Stari St., Ljubljana Slovenia

The oldest square of the medieval Ljubljana is dominated by the fountain but there are impressive women's (hi)stories all around it.

A must when in Ljubljana. The Old Town was and still is important for women of letters.

I have never been on such a tour, it was amazing! It's so important to have gender balancing themes on tours around the world. It was fun and educational, full of interesting facts from researches or city history. Go see/hear it!
