The Llama trek was extremely enjoyable. David and Vic were very informative about the animals. The llamas tend to stop and eat a lot but just a great walk all around! Besides Llamas they’ve got a couple of sweet friendly deers.

We managed to squeeze in this afternoon taster right after our morning whale watch experience (timing matched perfectly). We took part in loading the llamas up onto a trailer and drove to the nearby Kowhai riverbank for the trek. The llamas were of course adorable and the walk at the riverbank was easy. Our host was very knowledgeable and he shared many interesting facts about llamas and their natural and social behaviours. Overall, this taster trek is fun, relaxing and enjoyable - It should be on the agenda when visiting Kaikoura if you have the afternoon to spare. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable and the llamas were full of personality. This was genuinely a unique and memorable experience and we highly recommend incorporating a llama trek into your visit to Kaikoura.

If you are an animal lover this is such a great experience. I did not know much about llamas and was a little nervous but Kevin taught us so much about llamas and we had a wonderful time. I took Pegasus and my husband took Legend and they were lovely animals. We did the hour long trek and even though my husband has a bad knee and I am not the fittest person in the world it was easy going and very enjoyable. We will definitely come back to do the longer trek next time.I rang Kevin on the morning we wanted to visit, and asked if there was any space on that morning's one-hour trek. I rang Kevin on the morning we wanted to visit, and asked if there was any space on that morning's one-hour trek. Despite him not planning any treks for that day, he said come along and we'd go for a trek. Our one-hour trek turned into 90 minutes as we strolled down to the river, with Hero and Joey enjoying plenty of verge-side snack stops for clover, brambles, grass, wild fennel, etc. Kevin chatted about the llamas; how to work with them, their physiology, diet, lifespan, and herd hierarchy. And when we got to the Kohwhai River we talked about the gravels, and the effects of the Kaikoura earthquake on future sediment and bed levels. The trip was well worthwhile, and I'd recommend fellow kiwis to occasionally turn inland from marine wonders of Kaikoura and take a leisurely stroll with Kevin and his Andean friends. P.S. Just seen that my wife has already posted a review using my user! So it's two reviews for the price of one trip. :)
