When I disembarked from the NCL SKY in Freeport I saw a sign for a tour of the island and decided to take it along with two other couples. It was a great decision. The price was reasonable and Charlie was an excellent guide. He gave us historical facts of the island and pointed out homes of the rich and famous. We made a stop for delicious conch fritters and then we had an hour at Banana Bay where the beach is spectacular. I was slightly disappointed with the shore excursions I had booked with NCL, mainly because of the high prices, but this local tour with Mamma Gal was certainly a highlight of the cruise vacation.Excellent local tour! Charlie was so friendly and informative. It was a pleasure to see more than just the typical tourist spots and highlights. Excellent local tour! Charlie was so friendly and informative. It was a pleasure to see more than just the typical tourist spots and highlights. We learned so much about Bahamian culture that we wouldn't have learned on a larger bus tour. We had a chance to converse with our guide in a comfortable, informal setting. And the stop for lunch at Banana Bay was so enjoyable! We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you!We visited Freeport only for a few hours as part of a Carnival Cruise. We visited Freeport only for a few hours as part of a Carnival Cruise. We hadn't booked ahead, but Charlie was on top of it all. He really made us feel like we were seeing how the island really is, rather than the typical tourist stuff. He was so accommodating and knowledgeable. Even the kids said it was their favorite thing that we did on the islands. We couldn't have been happier. Thank you, Charlie!!This tour was eye opening to the destruction that the island incurred post Hurricane Dorian and COVID 19. Our tour guide, Charlie, was so knowledgeable, fun, and hospitable! This tour was eye opening to the destruction that the island incurred post Hurricane Dorian and COVID 19. Our tour guide, Charlie, was so knowledgeable, fun, and hospitable! He took us around all different neighborhoods, shops, and beaches. There was a group of 7 of us and we were very comfortable in the van that he drove us around in. I am 100% happy that we booked this tour. Charlie made this an incredible experience for us!!! Thank you Charlie!!!Charlie was an excellent guide and driver. Charlie was an excellent guide and driver. Very friendly, very knowledgeable, and he made us very comfortable. This tour was a great way to get away from the crowds and get a feel for the locale. The pick up location was right at our ship’s port. He made sure we had what we needed before we left on our excursion (beach attire for our beach stop). I enjoyed seeing the various sights around the island and learning more about The Bahamas and its citizens. I was a little disappointed at the fruit market stop. I love produce and thought I was going to see authentic, locally grown fruit. It was mostly wares like jewelry, t-shirts, and straw goods. The booth with the complimentary conch fritters was a delicious stop. We also paid for some delicious daiquiris there. I bought a banana wanting to taste a fresh one and it ended up being a Chiquita banana from Ecuador. I should have let Charlie know that I wanted to taste a fresh banana, as I’m sure he would have done what he could to help me there. I didn’t realize beforehand that the tour included two different market shopping stops. I am a minimalist and am not a big fan of souvenirs. However, the rest of the tour was very enjoyable, and if I could go back, knowing about the shopping stops, I would have gone prepared with more money and a mindset to buy some gifts at the very least. Tourism is their #1 industry and Grand Bahama island has been hit so hard between a hurricane and then co-vid. I wish that I went better prepared to help that industry. Thank you, Mama Gal, for an enjoyable excursion!
