We thoroughly enjoyed everything, especially our brunch next to the lake, our visit to the beach, the animal encounters, and the fantastic and natural scenery. Compared to safaris in more traditional areas, the animals are more skittish and fewer, but still plentiful and majestic. Would recommend.I am not sure where to start, it took me two days to comb through all the amazing experiences we had. I am not sure where to start, it took me two days to comb through all the amazing experiences we had. I know this review is a bit long however, the guys deserve that the world hears about them! The pictures here are unedited since I wanted to write this as soon as possible. We spent the whole day with Edilson and Calisto on a tour through Maputo Special Reserve. They are two of kindest, most industrious, professional and capable people we have ever met. Not only did they show us the reserve, but they also took the time end effort to introduce us to Mozambican culture and specificities of Maputo! The two of them provided us with the possibility to have an experience of a lifetime and a definite desire to come back to Mozabique more often! How did the whole process look? We booked the tour over Trip Advisor (it is also possible to book it with them directly, but we didn’t know that at the time) and already on the same day I got a WhatsApp message from Edilson with an exact schedule for the day, all the necessary information and contact numbers. I was unsure about the clothing and if there is anything else we should make sure to take with us, so I asked and got a detailed response right away — they had everything covered — food, water, and snacks. Only thing we should take are bathing suits since we will make a stop on the beach. I must say this exchange gave me peace of mind because there wasn’t a lot of information online about Mozambique, and the information that was available was extremely sparse and ambiguous. They picked us up at the hotel and the tour started. Already driving through Maputo, they made the effort to tell us more about the city and the people living there. Both of them speak excellent English and gave us inside info about local policies and background for particular names or people’s stances. On the way to the reserve the atmosphere was so good it felt like we were old friends going on a trip together. We compared experiences and exchanged cultural differences. They are extremely knowledgeable and can talk about anything. It was most refreshing! Calisto and Edilson have so much experience with the park that they can predict where which animals will be and took us there, already on the entrance we saw giraffes and impalas and a warthog with babies. Luckily, I decided to take my DSLR camera and had the opportunity of a lifetime to take some exquisite wildlife photos! We were driving through the park and every time we spotted an animal, we slowly came as close as possible, and we would stop to take a better look. Both of them have an extremely sharp and trained eye to spotting the animals! We saw elephants, zebras, nyalas, redbacks, black face monkeys, a wild dog praying on impalas, various birds, wildebeest and many more. For each animal, they knew to tell us more about it, its specificities, behavior and how to distinguish males from females. The guys have their go-to places in the park which are not so well known. We had a breakfast break by the lake with the hippos, it felt like a feast. They took care of everything, even hot water for coffee (and they took extra care that it was properly boiled so that we don’t get sick accidentally). Seriously, they think of everything! Finally, we came to the beach, it is a large sand beach surrounded with a mangrove forest where you can stroll next to the ocean, enjoy the waves and have a dip. The ocean was incredibly warm (and I like my sea very warm before I come in), there is nothing like a feeling of being refreshed by a wave and then, as it goes back, see a bunch of crabs running back towards it. While we were enjoying the ocean, Calisto and Edilson prepared grilled swordfish steaks! It was most delicious! The cool thing is that we took a stop at the camp where we had access to showers to wash off the sand before changing back into our clothes. I have already written the whole page and I could probably write another ten. After 6 years of experience working for other tour companies, the two of them decided to start their own and offer everything they can, striving always to improve, offer something new and immerse their guests into Mozambican culture through direct experience. After spending the whole day with them we couldn’t find the right words to praise them enough. We felt happy, we felt safe, we felt we had an opportunity to grow as people. It is like the holy grail of traveling — to grow and take all the experience with you which you can share further. I really hope we come back and meet them again! It is a pleasant excursion as a complement to the visit to Maputo. There are many antelopes, giraffes and even elephants.
