Their knowledge and entertainment was a great addition to an incredible site. Picture do not do justice to the glacier. Thank you so much for making our trip! 7 day Alaska cruise and the glacier and your team was the best part! And we came close to beating the record time canoeing back!!Baxter and Jason, you guys are certified professional lecturers in the Natural Sciences department! Baxter and Jason, you guys are certified professional lecturers in the Natural Sciences department! Hands down the most informative, enjoyable and beautiful up close glacier exploration we have done to date! If you’ve done crampon hiking on Matanushka, this is a totally different experience with some wonderful add-ons including ice cave formations, paddling through a glacial lake and learning so much about glacier behavior through it’s recessive and growth periods. Will have to do again with friends and family next time I am in Juneau. Totally worth your time and money!!Amazing experience. Our guides Baxter and Jason are super helpful and informative. Amazing experience. Our guides Baxter and Jason are super helpful and informative. We get to and from the glacier via a canoe trip (everyone participates); definitely an upper-body workout. After that, a hike to the glacier and back, checking out ice caves along the way. If you're not coming via cruise ship, just know that there is no public parking next to the pickup/dropoff point. The closest public parking is a 5-10 minute walk away. It's the "Shopper's Lot" on the corner of Main and Egan (the open air lot, not the structure next to it). There's also the "Marine Parking Garage" at Marine and Franklin that is a little closer, but only 20 spaces are available (the rest are permit or library parking).Wow, what an amazing experience! Wow, what an amazing experience! Baxter and Jason were full of great information and taught us so much about the Glacier and surrounding area. We paddled a canoe through Mendenhall Lake to the Mendenhall Glacier. We hiked to the edge of the Glacier and we're able to see some ice caves and explore around the Glacier. I would highly recommend doing this over flying on a helicopter! We even saw a rainbow when we got back.I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking to see Mendenhall! I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking to see Mendenhall! Canoeing 2.5 miles each way is no joke but Baxter & Jason made it so much fun. This tour, unlike the others out on the water, gets you right up to the glacier for a unmatched hiking experience. We had a crew of 9 total, mostly adults and one preteen. While the stormy day didn't help our paddling, it did bring out the vibrant blues in the ice. Baxter was full of fun facts from start to finish and was an expert navigator on a terrain that is rapidly changing. We were able to have the surreal experience of going underneath a portion of the glacier. It was easy to trust that both guides had good discretion for what we could manage while staying safe. You're equip with a jacket, rain pants, rain boots, canoeing gloves, a life vest, dry bags (with snack in them!) and a helmet for the hike. Baxter & Jason were nice enough to offer to take photos throughout the duration. Took us right around the 5.5 hour mark to wrap up. Ended with delicious hot drinks and Jason kindly drew up a quick map for hiking recommendations around town the next day!Absolutely incredible experience canoeing/hiking around the Mendenhall glacier.
