After picup and a quick breifing we head out of town toward the arrid Dorob National Park.

My buddy and I booked our tour while visiting WB after getting off our cruise ship. Kevin was our guide and he is absolutely wonderful! When he found out we were staying over night and interested in astronomy; he went out of his way to create a personalized night excursion in the desert complete with a home cooked bbq and music. Sadly the moon was near full, so the stars were not as vibrant as had hoped, but it didn't bother us as we were having a great time experiencing something we probably would never experience again. We then arranged to have him show us around the next morning before having to head to the airport for our flight. He showed us parts of WB many tourists don't see, while as well taking us to Pelican Point. Kevin without a question made our 24 hours in Namibia a memorable one and highlight of our 3 week travels. When I get the chance to get back to Namibia, I will certainly be utilizing Red Dune Safaris and Kevin to show us the other gems of the land. I'm always hesitant to use tours as they tend to be cookie cutter itineraries, but hands down their strive to personalize their excursions is what makes Red Dunes unique and preferable service.What an amazing tour we had with JP KOCH from Red Dune Safaris. He went out of his way to make the tour very special for us and took extra care to show us much more than what we expected. We were also treated to a delightful picnic in the river mouth. An absolute, incredible experience.

My wife and I were met on the dock just meters from our cruise ship by JP and Jacques Koch of Red Dune Safaris a couple of larger than life guys that you would imagine as safari guides. We knew it was going to be a great day when they offered us a cold beer while we awaited the other guest. There were eight of us in a spacious 12 passenger van. We were turned over to Elmar, our guide for the day, and away we went. Elmar was very informative as he brought us to our first stop to see the pelicans and flamingos. We were then off to Dune 7. That is one big pile of sand! We then went to see the Moon Landscape. It was a bit of a drive but well worth it. The scenery was awesome and you can just imagine that this is what the moon really looks like. Elmar did not ramble on as some guides do but gave us the necessary information we needed to know our surroundings. We then stopped for a lovely picnic lunch at an out of the way stop where we had a great lunch of home made treats made by the Koch family and washed it down with cold beer, wine and soft drinks. It was fabulous! We also saw 2 ostriches which was a bonus. Elmar asked if we wanted to take a drive to Swakopmund, a beautiful little city on the coast, as we had extra time as the traffic had been light. It was a beautiful drive and the city is also beautiful. Unfortunately it was a Sunday and most businesses were closed. We then drove back to Walvis Bay on the costal road. Spectacular views. I would recommend Red Dune Safaris to everyone. They treated us great, the price was MORE than reasonable, and their staff is awesome.

Our cruise ship stopped in Walvis Bay and I decided to go on the Moon Landscape and Welwitschia tour with Red Dune Safaris because it offered more at a better price that the usual ship excursions. Our guide Elmar was wonderful and the vehicle was in great shape. We saw the stark landscape where Mad Max was filmed, ostriches, and the bizarre Welwitschia plant and even had time to go to Swakopmund. Jacques is very organized and puts together great tours at good prices.
This was a most exceptional day with our delightful tour guide Cody he was so knowledgable about the area and took us off-road to some fabulous sights. I highly recommend this tour, especially when one can do it in a four wheel-drive vehicle - no more than four people in a vehicle - not a bus...
This was a most exceptional day with our delightful tour guide Cody he was so knowledgable about the area and took us off-road to some fabulous sights. I highly recommend this tour, especially when one can do it in a four wheel-drive vehicle - no more than four people in a vehicle - not a bus with 40 other sightseers. Swakopmund was lovely and cute and the atmosphere of the town reminded of Santa Monica, Calif., close to the beach with a very similar feeling about the place. If you take this or other Namibia excursions, be sure to request Cody.
