A perfect way to start the day in Varanasi - The morning boat trip was a very relaxed but interesting way to start a day in Varanasi and I would recommend to anyone who wants to learn a bit more about the city / culture and see the city from a different perspective. My guide (Mr Rohit) was informative, approachable and friendly, providing useful insight and answering even my most ridiculous questions. He took the tour at an easy pace, giving me plenty of time to absorb and not just be overwhelmed with information. What set the tour apart were the small touches I haven't seen provided elsewhere - meeting me directly at my hostel, a good cup of chai halfway, a trip to the sands on the opposite bank for some alone time etc. These were really appreciated and added to the relaxed feeling of the experience. As an aside, the young boatman had great control and his calm navigation added to the feeling of comfort.Good experience with the boat for sunrise. I found this company on tripadvisor and booked a Ganges Sunrise boat trip with less than 48hrs notice, Mukand responded straight away and explained Rohit would meet us at 5 30am at our hotel Rohit was very punctual on the morning of the tour, he was also very knowledgeable and was able to give us great insight and information into the morning rituals being carried out. As well as making us feel comfortable - politely telling us when we could/could not take photos. Everything was seamless - the boat and driver was waiting for us and it was just for our party (some boats had lots of people on them). We motored up to the last ghat taking in the sights- where we stepped of the boat and were given some time to take it all in and observe the local people. The tea we were given was also very nice! We then floated back down to the main ghat, with Rohit explaining the origin of each ghat along the way. We were then able to get very close to the ghat where most cremations happen and once again Rohit gave us lots of information about this process. He then walked us back to our hotel via the back alleys so we could experience life in Varanasi - whilst explaining more to us. We then visited a silk shop where the owner explained the process from silkworm to scarf. Whilst we were given items to look at, we didn't feel pressured to buy. This was a very interesting and informative trip which was very good valie for money. It exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Rohit for being such an excellent guide :). (He was so good that we also booked him again for the rest of the afternoon where he took us to view 3 main temples in Varanasi via tuktuk and we also got to experience the evening prayers on the Ganges from a great viewing point. Another seamless and great tour!) Highly recommend
