My friend and I took this cruise on Monday. There were only 6 of us on the boat. Adam took us on a gentle one hour cruise to the island, with coffee and tea served on the way. On arrival at Mou Waho, we went on a guided walk to the top of the island. Tim, our guide, was very knowledgeable and told us all about the island and how it had been cleared of predators so some ground dwelling bird species were brought back from the brink of extinction. These birds, Weka, are inquisitive and not afraid of people. There is a lovely lake on the island you can take a dip in if you want. The extra climb to the very top of the island is well worth it for the incredible views. After boarding the boat for our trip back, tea and coffee was served again and we were back in Wanaka by around 12.30. It’s not a cheap activity but we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommended it. Thanks to Tim and Adam for a great day out. This may have been the best time on our 3 week honeymoon. This may have been the best time on our 3 week honeymoon. The Cruise was a little rough but the island was amazing, there was a good breeze on the lake that made the water rough, but my wife had the time of her life, like a roller coaster. Chris, our captain and guide, was great. He taught us so much about the island and the wildlife. He gladly took picture of us. We even got to plant a tree for our honeymoon to help repopulate the island. I would recommend this trip for all. Will Never forget the lake on and island on a lake on an island on a lake on an island on the ocean. My wife and I went with our eleven year ol daughter. Chris was amazing fun host from the get go. My wife and I went with our eleven year ol daughter. Chris was amazing fun host from the get go. Boat trip was bumpy in the wind but fun and safe. Small group of 8 meant we had personal experience. Island was awesome and the rare Weka birds were right under our feet. Walk was great with regular stops to talk about the island and its flora and fauna. The views were incredible looking at the snow capped mountains and lake. Dress light in summer with a jacket only needed in some spots or if weather is bad. This was a 3.5 hour trip leaving at 9am. Because this is an early cruise, there was only one other group on the island when we arrived. Adam who skippered and acted as our guide was very knowledgable on the island birds and flora. This was a 3.5 hour trip leaving at 9am. Because this is an early cruise, there was only one other group on the island when we arrived. Adam who skippered and acted as our guide was very knowledgable on the island birds and flora. The catamaran is large and very comfortable with leather sofas. Ramesh looked after us with hot drinks and info on Wanaka and the surrounding area. The walk is around 1.5 hours round trip climbing a hill up a rough path. But the view from the top is spectacular, overlooking a lake at the top of the hill and Wanaka lake and mountains. Would highly recommend Mou Waho with this operator. No regrets. Did the 3.5 hr Mou Wahu trip and it was worth every minute, every dollar. First of all, Tim and Andy are fantastic hosts. Andy, a local, is an experienced super yacht captain. Tim, who has a passion for the great outdoors, is a wealth of knowledge about the flora and fauna. The boat t...
The boat trip to the island is gorgeous, and you can’t helped but be overwhelmed by your surroundings. The walk up Mou Wahu Island is spectacular in so many ways. You’ll see lots of native flora, as well as some of the cheeky local weka birds. A real treat. On top of this, you are spoilt with one postcard perfect view after another. It really is fantastic. This trip comes with my highest recommendation. 10/10.A fun day out and a really well organised trip. The commentary was helpful and it was great to see Wanaka from a different view point. Thanks again
