Nairobi to Kiambethu Tea Farm Tour
Overview
Situated at 7, 200 ft., Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was the first person to grow, make and sell tea commercially in Kenya - now one of Kenya’s biggest exports. Five generations have lived on the farm and it is currently run by his granddaughter Fiona Vernon. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest - home to the Colobus monkey and plenty of other wildlife.

I had an very educated experience at the tea farm. You start from learning how the tea was planted and grown, then on how it’s picked, the various seeds and lastly how it is manufactured! The garden and plants are truly beautiful in person, flowers blossoming all around you! We were able to try the locating manufactured tea, and it differently puts Lipton to shame! The staff at the tea farm were very kind and offered tremendous customer service. Our tour guide definitely was very educated about the tea making process from beginning to end and answering and all questions our group had. The food was AMAZING, I thanked the chef and kitchen staff personally! All of the food was fresh and cooked to perfection. It was cool to walk through the forest and learn of the different plants for healing and medicine and seeing the different monkeys as well. And lastly my driver Dennis, he was definitely informative of the area that we traveled to, as well was his friendly personality shined as well. I look forward to meeting him again on my return back because he was awesome for sure!Informative tour learned a lot of information about the tea industry in Kenya. Having a long transit at Niarobi airport, I booked the tour to visit the tea farm. I was picked up from the airport by the very friendly and safe driver Dennis, who along the way told stories about life in Kenya. The visit to the tea farm was simply wonderful. Fiona and her team are wonderful hosts, sharing the history of the farm and the process of tea farming. The farm is set in a beautiful scenery and the visit to the farm and the forest (which is home to two types of primates, including the Colobus monkey) well-worth the trip. I can't say enough about the lunch, awaiting us. Beautiful, tasty dishes with ingredients from the farm. Fiona and her team went an extra mile to serve a meal suiting my food sensitivities, which made the visit even more pleasant. Seeing zebras, buffalos and antelopes walking along the roadside in the NP on the way back, topped it all off. Thank you for a great break-away from the airport! Highly recommend the trip to anyone looking for a differentWhat a pleasant trip with a fully reliable and professional tour guide. What a pleasant trip with a fully reliable and professional tour guide. Along the way from Nairobi city center to Kiambethu Farm you will get to see the outskirts markets and cottage industry along the way. The journey to Kiambethu Farm is very smooth and not winding, there are many spots for photography, many tea ladies picking teas, cows and goose as live stock as well. The host in Kiambethu Tea Farm (Fiona) is an extremely friendly and gentle lady, she explained the history of this tea mountain and the detail process of tea making. Food offered by the host are fantastic and with good quality. Strongly recommend this to all friends, if you are not a tea person, do come here for scenery and fresh air.Obed is a very professional and accommodating agent that I would recommend to anyone visiting Nairobi. The tour itself was delightful, the lunch was excellent and the surroundings of the farm look incredible!
