What to expect
EcoTravel's popular Orangutan Trek in Gunung Leuser National Park is an unforgettable and authentic tour to experience the real Sumatran rainforest. We recommend this 2-day trek for sportive travellers who want to hike in fantastic tropical nature and experience the nocturnal life of the jungle.
This adventurous 2-day trek starts from our EcoTravel office at 8:30 am. During this jungle trek you will hike in a small group of up to a maximum of 7 EcoTravel guests while having a big chance to see wild animals in their natural habitat - especially the last Sumatran Orangutans. Around 15:00 pm you will reach our campsite along a river bank where you will spend the night. The next morning you will have the opportunity to visit a beautiful waterfall before a “jungle taxi” will take you back to Bukit Lawang by traditional tube-rafting down the Bohorok River. Return to Bukit Lawang by 14:30 pm.
We provide double tents, mattress, pillows and sleeping bags for a comfortable overnight stay in the jungle. With an innovative water filter we increase our guests’ health and wellbeing. And our delicious, freshly prepared meals are memorable add ons to kick your energy for walking in the wild.

My wife and I were hoping to find a guided tour of the rainforest to see orangutans and other wildlife through a company that emphasizes sustainability. Our experience with Eco Travel was exactly what we were looking for. Our guides, lead by Antonio Banderas (not the actor but the guide, haha), were very adept at spotting wildlife, and very knowledgeable about the ecosystem. They also worked extremely hard working to make sure we were well taken care of. This was a once in a lifetime experience that we would highly recommend! The trip was so amazing! More than I could have ever imagined. The one night in the jungle was wonderful with amazing food and an open fire by the river . The rooms at eco travel are beautiful and situated right along the river . What I really loved to hear about was the work eco travel does in regards to regeneration by replanting and also giving back to the schools and the people in the village of Bukit Lawang. They are extremely conscious of the environment and as they say leaving nothing but footprints I would highly recommended this adventure to any one of any age. I will never forget this experience. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. Debbie 🦧This was one of the best experiences of our 1 year worldtrip! This was one of the best experiences of our 1 year worldtrip! We did the Hello Jungle Tour and it was just so amazing. We saw Orangutans 5 times and also had regular sightings of other monkeys like gibbons or thomas leaf monkeys. The ecotravel team is just the best! Indra & Henri were such great and spirited guids and Ivan cooked meals for us, which you would not even get in a 5 star hotel. I cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed the time with them and how great it was to see how much they loved their job too! We will definitly come back one day!An experience of a lifetime!!!!! We had the best guides (Henra & Antonio) who took us on our 2 day jungle trek. It was a tough trek but would do it all over again!!
