At the top, hiking enthusiasts can take a short, strenuous hike (about 40 minutes round trip.) No trees--just rocks and ice and a restaurant and shop and restrooms.

The volcano itself is stunning and definitely worth seeing but don't bother do it as part of a trip. By the time we reached the volcano itself we only had 1 hour to explore and this is not enough time to see anything. We managed to get the ski lift right to the top but no time to walk around or see any of the craters and enjoy the scenery - it was straight up, stay on and straight back down. Our guide did speak English but it wasn't a tour, more of a very expensive taxi as he barely spoke to us throughout the journey. He also said we could walk a bit of it but heavily insinuated walking wasn't an option in the time we had. Note, the trip doesn't include costs of ski lifts - it's not too expensive but you will probably need to buy this as you don't really have much time to hike up or around the volcano. This is also another problem: the price. For almost £30 you'd expect more time so you can do it yourself without the ski lift or subsidised it at least.stay in ensenada then go up there early in the morning, entrance is free, hike up to the snow line, view is awesome, cheap place to stay up there is at the ski lodge

We spent two hours walking along the volcano, which was special, which included a walk along a lake. Well recommended tour. Benjamin recommended the rainforest tour which we took two days later, which was also fantastic.
