They built a railway up the hill and bungalows for retreat during weekend. Here we can see the legacy of the bungalows left behind by the British beside experiencing a colder climate compared to lowland. During the British era the Chinese flourished and thrived. They practiced their religion steadfastly and built many temples that rivaled those in China, if not better! One of the better one is Kek Lok Si, better described as the largest Buddhist's theme park in South East Asia. Learn all about Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism at the temple. There is a saying here in Penang - "you have not been to Penang if you have not been to Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si".

Our guide, Ang, showed us top sights in Penang while providing just the right amount of historical context. The half-day unfolded like a well planned story, and ending it at a "hawker center" was a delicious treat. The quality was worth the price.

Mark Lee was our tour guide for the flexible half day tour. He's the best! I was completely surprised by how patient, enthusiastic and knowledgeable he is. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much for the tour but with Mark, he made it a very interesting and enjoyable tour. He's very thoughtful too (he has a steady supply of cold water and soft drinks that he offered us!). It was time very well spent and we highly recommend Mark as your tour guide! Our guide Lam was great,he was very enthusiastic and explained everything,, he managed to get us front seats on the funicular railway both ways which was no mean feat, the photos he has sent us have been really good. The half day escapes booking was a disappointment. We were picked up by an MPV that could only seat 6, and there was not enough place for my 2 year old to sit and he was fidgeting. Why wasn't I given a seat for him? When I booked, I remember your website not giving me an option for my son's age group of 2 years old...so he was considered 'infant'. It was so dangerous having him sit on our laps when he's so big and active.Mr Lam was excellent very friendly and very knowledgable. He showed us a few things we wanted to see and left the rest to him. We had a great few hours in Penang.

We took advantage of the flexibility of the package and texted our preferred destinations to our guide, Tiger, hours before we were to meet him. He arrived promptly with a clean, well maintained car. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Everywhere we wanted to go, he had interesting history and stories to tell us. We asked him to do a couple of non tourist stops, and he was very accommodating and made them as seamless as possible. Tiger was a good driver as well. He spoke very good English. If we had the opportunity, we would have had him guide us every day of our trip!
