I have taken a number of Walking Tours but this tour was one of the best ! Mark was very punctual, knowledgeable about the history of Penang and he knew what to recommend as to the different ethnic cuisines. It turned out that our tour was small and that made it even better as Mark was accommodating to make few changes here and there. The food was fantastic with local Indian, Malay/Indian and Chinese. He ordered just the right amount for us and I enjoyed all the dishes. The story of how he grew up in a certain neighborhood and the family history was also enlightening as he explained Penang's very colorful history. If you plan a trip to Penang or have been here but not taken Mark's tour, I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Penang. I took a friend who has lived here for six years and even he was amazed and pleased with Mark's tour.Mark is an intelligent and kind host. Axiata Group organised a forum from 15 to 17 October 2019 in Penang, Malaysia with over 50 participants from all its markets across ASEAN and South Asia and engaged Mark Ng from Simply Enak to provide an experiential tour of Penang that will lend our participants an insightful and unique view of Penang’s heritage, culture, people and food that speaks of the island’s diversity and epic historical significance. We had lofty expectations and are happy to record that Mark showed us the best of Penang, and how the local cuisine is an integral and complex part of the unique heritage of Penang. Furthermore, Mark also took it upon himself to go beyond his scope to engage with the participants to see to their every need, staying sensitive to their various specific dietary requirements. Upon our request, he also engaged a professional photographer and a supplier of Malaysian traditional costumes so that the team could have a traditional Malaysian themed group photo. We thank Mark for an exceptional and memorable experience, and for his patience, professionalism and attention to detail. We look forward to the opportunity to work with Simply Enak in the future as we are grateful he took on the load of organisation details and worked hard to ensure our participants fell in love with the island as we have. It is with pleasure that we strongly recommend Simply Enak for this. We love doing food tours as one of the first things we do in a new place, and this was one of the best we’ve experienced. Firstly, Mark was where he said he would, and he was early, as we were ( it’s a congen disability), and after introductions we set off. Mark proved to be a wonderful guide and host, he is very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Penang, and of course the food. He’s as enthusiastic about the food as he is about the history. We were the only two on the tour so we meandered at our own paces around the UNESCO area of Georgetown, chatting as we went. mark is a font of knowledge and stories. When he found out we loved laksa, he took us to his favourite Penang Curry Laksa place and even picked up some local spinach to add to the experience. It was clear from the welcome he received that he eats there regularly. Worth the money, and I could not think of a better way to start a visit to Penang.Make this the first thing you do in Penang! Make this the first thing you do in Penang! Your brilliant guide, Mark, will introduce you to some amazing local dishes, show you fascinating landmarks and give you a great insight into some of Panang's history. None of it feels rehearsed, Mark is just the real deal who knows his stuff, good food and is an all-round great guy who goes above and beyond to ensure that not only your tour is great, but that you enjoy your whole stay in Penang. Every recommendation he has made has been spot on, from the best street food, to fine dining restaurants, attractions to nature walks. Mark tailors each tour to the group - dietry requirements are met and the conversation flows according to your interest. What a wonderful host and tour that I recommend to all ages. Make it the first thing you do in Penang as it will give you a great introduction to the city, and help you make the most out of the rest of your stay.
