A lovely mixture of nature watching and learning about native culture and history from people who have lived it and are living it. We visited the village on a remote inlet where both the captain and our tour guide were born and raised, and heard personal stories while walking among the remains of that village. On the way back we spotted whales and seals. It was heartbreaking to hear of all the different ways in which Canada's government and white settlers have actively dispossessed the Homalco tribe (like so many other tribes), and to make the connection with the experiences of real people standing before us, pushing through embarassment because they feel it is important to share what really happened. We are grateful to have been on this very personal journey , and it was heartwarming to hear of the many ways, big and small, in which this tribe is reclaiming its place in the area, rebuilding itself with small enterprises and finding back its customs and its pride. Janet in particular is a guide and a person for whom I have the deepest respect. I would have loved to go on a bear hunt too, if only time and money hadn't run short. The whole thing was amazing. Well organized, easy, and friendly staff. Comfortable boat ride, and great lunch. The stop at the island was a great experience.

This is a thought provoking and impactful tour and I highly recommend it to everyone. Janet, the Homalco Tours knowledge keeper and guide, made us feel welcome and her stories gave us deeper insight into Coast Salish culture in this area and throughout the Salish Sea. We we fortunate to share the journey with many Homalco Nation members, which enriched our experience. We were honoured to hear their stories of growing up on the Aupe reserve (Church House) and being taken into the residential school system. The interpretive walk was full of moments of learning and reflection. Mix all that with amazing scenery, wonderful people, wildlife, a few laughs and hot chocolate. The only thing missing was the bear we kept watching for!Fantastic tour. Our guides welcomed us in their language and in English. Their peoples were forced to live here many decades ago. We saw a seal beside the island. A black bear ran away as we arrived. During our tour our guided and us made cedar bracelets, that I’ll treasure. On our way back we saw sea lions, bald eagles and humpback whales. Highly recommend this tour.Amazing tour! Amazing tour! From the get go everyone involved was friendly and personable. The boat itself is great-got us around the Discovery Islands through beautiful channels and water ways. The option to be inside or outside was great. Saw humpbacks near the beginning, seals, sea lions, birds, etc. We missed a grizzly at Orford Bay by mere minutes, but the beauty of that bay is breathtaking. My friends and I enjoyed the heritage and language learning. It was a great tour!
