Catarina was an excellent guide. He clearly cared that everyone had a good time and shared his knowledge of Madeira flora, fauna, technology etc very well. Highly recommend this tour company who made everything very easy.

Took me a while to find a decent company to do pico do arieiro to pico ruivo guided hike and glad I chose free spirit. They picked me up from Funchal at 8am and drove to the pico arieiro car park. We had a 15 min stop on the way to buy water and snacks and use the toilet. Group of 11 people which was a good size. Filipe was our guide and explained some of the history of the path and the plants along the way. The pace was gentle and he took great care of everyone, with lots of humour along the way. He also gave lots of updates on how far we had gone and what we could expect ahead. We stopped for an hour at pico ruivo to have a snack and take photographs which was great. Instead of walking back to the pico do ariero car park, we walked for less than an hour to achadas do teixeira which was much less strenuous and meant the walk overall was not as difficult as I expected. Keep in mind you don’t see the sun rise with this tour as it goes a bit later. Thank you to Filipe and his colleague driving for a very safe and enjoyable day!I had nice hiking time with Claudio in small group.
