I needed to see a different side of Mexico outside of the Tourist traps. This your was very nice. I would recommend giving it a try.

I did the tour with Alex and it was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and spoke excellent English. The places we visited were beyond amazing. My 2 favorites were Antojitos Playa del Carmen near the corner of 30 Ave N and 2nd N - the enchilada in their in-house mole sauce was beyond amazing - almost licked the plate and Carnitas Teresita which was off the hook good. Also, I don't think that the description of the tour says that there is a stop at a local farmer's market but it does include this and where we got fresh juice. Amazing, amazing tour. Beyond reproach! The tour itself was really good. Food was great and you got to see some great art work and learn some history about the Mexican people. The only downfall on this tour is that the cost is to high.

I enjoyed the food and enjoyed even more the historical and cultural knowledge that Indra added to the gustatory pleasures. It was the perfect tour to get to know the downtown area of Carmen del Playa and to get oriented to how to eat well in the area! I loved finding out that the roots of el pastor tacos lies in the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the migration of Middle Easterners to the Yucatan... eating huitlachoche, the "Mexican truffle," and learning its story... and connecting with all the local food vendors and their specialties. Indra's enthusiasm and pleasure for sharing his love of his town is the special sauce that topped everything off! It's a bargain and a pleasure, and I highly recommend it. I especially appreciated Indra's invitation to ask any questions about the area and his generosity with giving recommendations about where to eat and things to do.Great way to sample local, authentic restaurants/food stands. You go off the beaten path to out of the way places where the locals are eating. You won’t find most of these on your own. We went back to the ones we liked best!
