We booked a 3 hour tour with Askotours and I can't rate them highly enough. Our archeological guide, Paola Vitiello was not only extremely knowledgeable but she had excellent English . She had studied under one of the professors invovled in the excavation and described in detail the background and context to the artifacts and buildings. I would certainly recommend that you stay for 3 hours as there is so much to see. Definitely worth having a personal guided tour. I felt we really got under the skkn of the place. My 6 year old son is obsessed with Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius, so we booked this tour with an archeologist. It did not disappoint. We experienced a two hour walking tour of Pompeii. Our guide, Sergio, was very well informed, accommodating, and made the tour fascinating. We needed a wheelchair for the longer walks involved, and that was provided as part of the tour. If you come all this way to see one of the wonders of the world, then get the most out of the trip with a personal guided tour - it's worth it.
