Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Volcanic ash typically buried inhabitants who did not escape the lethal effects of the earthquake and eruption.

This is a very well planned tour! We started on time and the bus was very comfortable and not too crowded period there was a will placed comfort break with opportunity to get coffee and snacks along the road. there was also a very interesting tour of some of the very beautiful architectural structures in downtown Naples. Our guide is an archaeologist and was exceptionally knowledgeable in the history . However it was a little daunting manoeuvring through the very busy downtown Naples with road and foot traffic. We had several different languages spoken in the tour! I was with an English Spanish group and there was also an Italian and French group. Our guides seamlessly transitioned from one language to the next making sure that we all got the same information. We stopped for a a very good lunch: salad,pizza, dessert and coffee. The restaurant was very beautiful and the atmosphere was extremely friendly and it was well executed. Once we got to Pompeii we were brought into a marketplace type area. one word of caution is that the vendors are very assertive! We were given an exceptional tour of Pompeii. our guide is still working on on the excavation on site and was able to provide us a lot of first hand, in-depth knowledge that was next level! We were not given a lot of time after the tour but we all had enough time to visit the bookstore or shops if we wanted. On the way back we made another well placed stop for restroom and snacks. All in all it was one of my favourite tours I've taken with this company. I would highly recommend.drmegamente
