Our instructor was friendly, but he didn't really do much for us. He gave a basic 2 min lesson before we jumped into the water, which was fine I guess. He pushed us onto a couple of waves, but it was kind of felt like we were paying $200 for someone to watch us get beat up by the waves, which obviously comes with learning, but there wasn't much guidance or correcting happening. I felt like I was teaching myself. But when the board strip broke on each board 40 mins into our 120 min lesson, that really ruined the experience... he didn't offer any refund or anything so we just kept using the broken boards. It was a waste of time and energy changing our boards every time we fell off. We were really disappointed. After an hour, I gave my board to the instructor and he just used the last hour riding the waves and getting paid to have fun while I stood and watched on the beach. My husband did okay, but 2 hours was way too long. I wish we were compensated for the broken boards or atleast offered to cut the lesson short for a 50% refund or something. It sucked. My boyfriend and I had an amazing hour surf lesson with Mark from A1A! He was easy to get in touch with, giving us his personal number so we could call and discuss the weather beforehand. My boyfriend and I had an amazing hour surf lesson with Mark from A1A! He was easy to get in touch with, giving us his personal number so we could call and discuss the weather beforehand. We originally had a lesson scheduled for a Friday, but he called that morning to say the waves were nonexistent and it would be a waste of our time and money to go, so he was able to push it back to a Sunday. He even called us Sunday morning to confirm and let us know the waves would be good! Mark wasted no time at all getting us into the water; we spent a few minutes on shore as he showed us how to pop up into position on the boards, and then got into the water and got right to it! He was very knowledgeable and friendly, and made sure we were able to catch some waves and get our money's worth. He even gave us an extra 15 minutes in the water to give us just a bit longer to practice! He brought the boards to us at the beach local to where we were staying. We were too exhausted from all the surfing after an hour that we didn't rent the boards for the rest of the day, but had we done so, the shop would have come to collect them at our beach when we were finished, so we wouldn't have had to worry about driving them back. We couldn't have asked for a better instructor to make our first surf lesson so much fun!Great communication from this vendor. Easy to find. Brian was patient and capable. Surf was pretty big and my granddaughter was relatively inexperienced. Brian ensured her safety and provided a wonderful experience. Highly recommend
