What to expect
The day starts with being picked up by our guide from one of several designated locations in Stavanger. After a 40-minute drive, we arrive at the start of the trail (where restrooms are available). Here the guide will provide information about the trail, expected conditions, and useful tips for good hiking. When everyone is ready, the hike begins. If conditions allow it, the guide can take you to hidden spots along the way. The pace allows for time to adjust clothes and equipment, time to rest and enjoy snacks, and for taking pictures along the way.
After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Preikestolen, 604 meters right above the legendary Lysefjorden. The sheer cliff face overlooks the fjord, and the panoramic view before us makes for a fantastic reward after all the work it took to get there.
After we have enjoyed the scenery and relaxed for a while, we head back down. It normally takes about 2 hours to get back down to the parking area. Exhausted but satisfied, we get back in the car. As we get driven back to Stavanger, we process our experience of a day well spent.

While we initially booked for the Preikestolen winter hike, the weather was not favorable due to rain and we were offered a refund or alternative day trip instead. Since this was our last day in Stavanger we opted to do a driving tour to a lovely waterfall and scenic views of the Lysefjord. Our guide Erlend was responsive, professional and had a wealth of information. His best buddy Balder was an absolute joy and full of energy. Erlend is also a great photographer. While our initial hike did not go as planned, we were still appreciative of the day we had and seeing the beautiful countryside. We hope to return one day and complete Preikestolen and would highly recommend Erlend and his photogenic and adorable dog Balder.Erlend, our guide (and his lovely border collie, Balder), met us off the ferry at Forsand, where he drove us to Preikestolen lodge car park. Erlend, our guide (and his lovely border collie, Balder), met us off the ferry at Forsand, where he drove us to Preikestolen lodge car park. My partner and I, who are over 60, were privileged to be the only ones that climbed with him that day. Before we started, he made sure we had walking sticks and crampons. On the first hill as we left the car park going to Pulpit Rock, he assessed our strength and pace and adjusted it for the walk up. Erlend took us off the well known path to see magnificent views along the route. He knew when we should use our crampons and where to take the best photos along the route and at Pulpit Rock. He took our phones and climbed higher at Pulpit Rock to get the best shots of us highlighting the height and views. Climbing in the afternoon meant there was less people on the Rock when we arrived. Erlend treated us to a hot drink and snacks, so we were able to share what we had. We were awarded with an amazing sunset on the way down and Erlend provided head torches to brighten our way down. His thoughtfulness was outstanding. We couldn’t recommend Erlend, Explore Lysefjorden enough! We loved everything about the hike. Our tourguide Hege was able to answer all our questions and to give a lot of information about the area. She is a great storyteller and at reading the crowd. We loved everything about the hike. Our tourguide Hege was able to answer all our questions and to give a lot of information about the area. She is a great storyteller and at reading the crowd. What was so special about doing the winter hike is that there are not many people on the mountain and you can experience peace and quite and take in the magnitude of the Preikestolen completely. Because the guide knows the different routes to take and knows exactly where it is safe to go, we could see more of the area then we would have been able to on our own. We highly recommend this trip and company!Despite it being mid-winter, foggy and mid-afternoon already, Erland kept us safe and made it a fun adventure. We got to pulpit rock at dusk and in thick cloud but it was still so worthwhile, the descent in the dark would have been unthinkable without an experienced guide.

We had an absolutely amazing time hiking up to Preikestolen. We felt totally safe in the hands of our experienced guide (and his lovely dog) and the views all the way up the mountain were stunning. Our guide also provided Nordic walking sticks and headlamps for us which was extremely helpful, particularly for the winter hike! I would 100% recommend the hike and this company to anyone who is looking to explore the Lysefjord. My buddy and I did the fjord cruise and winter hike at Preikstolen in late October. My buddy and I did the fjord cruise and winter hike at Preikstolen in late October. We started the day with the ferry through the fjord, which was fantastic alone. We were then picked up at the terminal by our incredible guide Erlend. Erlend is hands down the best guide that I have ever had. Extremely knowledgable, helpful, experienced, and kind. He made sure that we were doing alright with the hike and provided light snacks and even a refreshment at the top. The hike itself on the way up was beautiful through the various terrain. When we reached the top it was cloudy, but after a short wait things cleared up. WOW was the view incredible and absolutely worth it. Erlend offered to take pictures of my friend and I that turned out incredibly. I would recommend this specific hike and tour to anyone visiting Stavanger. It was the highlight of the trip. Huge shoutout to Erlend who was incredible for making this day unforgettable!
