Penny is an amazing tour guide. He is more than hospitable. He blessed us with a very authentic tour through the lush and scenic rainforest of the Abaca Village. We felt safe and comfortable the whole time.. from making sure we had enough water , to showing us the small things like where to pick fresh guava. He went above and beyond to make this a memory that will last a lifetime. It is a quite intense trek up to the top, but once you reach the peak it makes up for every second. Thank you Penny and we hope to see you again one day.Our trek was absolutley wonderful! Our trek was absolutley wonderful! We are avid hikers and have never used a guide before, but this trip was made very special by our terrific guide Peni. Peni is a true Fijian, very informative and super friendly. He arranges as part of his tour, to visit a mountain village for a special lunch in a family home. The food was absolutely delicious and it was a highlight of our trip to meet the local family and be invited into their home. The hike was fairly easy to the falls. We did get rained on a bit, but dried off very quickly. We hope to do the longer trek on our next visit to Fiji and will definitely connect with Peni upon our return. Again, we have never paid for a guide before and were a bit hesitant. However, Peni really made the hike a Fiji "experience" instead of just another hike to a waterfall. We 100% recommend Peni and his excellent tour! This is the only tour we booked in Fiji and we are enjoying every minute of this! This is the only tour we booked in Fiji and we are enjoying every minute of this! Trip starts with a private ride to the village in the mountain and the hike to the top is tense! It's not long - and definitely not a crowded one as we only see one other hiker along the way. But with the humidity you would get much sweat 1 mile in - so glad our guide Peni bringing enough for water for us to drink along the hike. If you hike by yourself you definitely are going to be lost (no signs on the trail - only paths) - so a guide like Peni is definitely necessary and very helpful. View from the mountain top is awesome (randomly there is cloud in/out and block your view - but the celebration is real!) and the hike down in my opinion is a bit more challenging and sometimes slippery - so take care. Round trip is about 4 hours (as fast as we can). The highlight of the tour really comes after the hike - we enjoyed a BEAUTIFUL lunch in the local village with cava ceremony. It goes as local as you ever want!! Then we ride back to Lautoka with the locals - it's just fun! The day ends quickly and definitely a day we would remember for our trip in Fiji. I highly recommend this tour - only downside for the day is Peni is a bit late to start without some advance notice, but it's definitely a fun day afterwards. We had an amazing day. My wife and I wanted to hire a local tour guide for a customized private tour. Luckily I found Peni Dovi, a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Peni sent us two proposed itineraries to choose from. We were staying on the south side of the island at the Waidroka Bay Resort. Peni gladly drove 3 hours to pick us up for the tour. First we drove to Lautoka then changed to a 4-wheel drive vehicle on the drive to Abaca Village. From the village we did a three hour hike to a beautiful waterfall where we could swim. After the hike we had a traditional Fijian lunch at one of the village resident's home, followed by a village tour. After this Peni took us to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant botanical garden which is magnificent, followed by a stop at a mud pool/hot springs. Peni is a funny, knowledgeable guide who can customize a tour to fit your needs. The day spent with Peni was one of the highlights of our trip to Fiji.We had a fantastic day with Peni - it was truly the highlight of our trip! We had a fantastic day with Peni - it was truly the highlight of our trip! The hike to the waterfall was very hot but we could stop along the way as much as we needed to. The waterfall was absolutely gorgeous and we could go for a dip when we got there! Once returned to the village, we shared lunch which was made by a family and then Peni took us to Laukota so we could drive through the city! We had a great day - Peni was so informative and had lots of stories to share! This was the highlight of our trip and we can’t wait to go back to Fiji soon!
