Chittor, or Chittaurgarh, is a romantic name for a city and municipality in the Rajasthan state of western India. Chittaurgarh was founded by Bappa Rawal in 8th century, and is located at an elevation of 408 meters (1339 feet) above sea level. Chittaurgarh city is located on the banks of the Gambhiri River and Berach. Mirabai, 16th century poet, and Rani Padmini, are from Chittaurgarh.
The way to Chittaurgarh Fort is a winding road protected by seven fortified gateways. In 1534, the fort was besieged by the Sultan of Gujarat. In 1568, the fort was again the site of conflict, a four-month siege by the Mughal forces of Akbar, which eventually took the fortress. Chittaurgarh Fort sits atop a rocky hill, 151 meters (495 feet) high and 4828 meters (3 miles) long. It is one of India's largest fortresses and dominates the city's skyline. It is a symbol of local pride and loyalty.

Visited Chittorgarh fort last Tuesday.loved the fort. we booked cab from ride and relax and cab driver told us he knew one of the best guide. We trusted our cab driver and we are totally disappointed. Guide was pathetic and was not able to convey thoughts and stories in proper way. When I asked about some place he told copy kar Liya madam.copy kar Liya madam... When we reached Padmini palace guide told it's not worth watching..as we have small kid and because of his behaviour we also felt just leave this place.. returning back guide and cab driver asked us watch some tribal products.they stopped one shop near exit gate of fort. The shop guy showed lot of material s and insisted we should help tribe. No price tag on products and it was a fixed rate shop..we felt cost is too much. They talk nicely and emotionally and we ended up buying stuff which we don't wanted.. Guide has his share and also cab driver. Guide was too busy when he was explaining about fort but in the shop he was totally free.. so getting good guide is must when you visit Chittorgarh. All over Chittorgarh fort is awesome and some people care only about money and beware of them.Chittorgarh Fort definitely worth a visit, it's a magic place in on a hill with amazing views. Chittorgarh Fort definitely worth a visit, it's a magic place in on a hill with amazing views. The visit is better if you have a car or a driver. This simply because of the extension of the place and the many buildings and areas to visit. If you are well prepared about it you can also visit on your own, without a guide. However a professional guide can help you to prioritise places and tell you about their history and the many stories around. Unfortunately the driver and the tour guide I paid for this trip weren't everything but professional, well below the standard I expected for the paid price. 1. The driver's car was old, uncomfortable and going to a very slow speed. On the motorway we've been overtaken by almost every car. 2. The driver didn't speak a word in English 3. We met early morning, I didn't do any breakfast and on the way the driver never asked if I needed to stop (it's a 2 hrs journey). Instead, at halfway he stopped saying he needed a tea, basically leaving me in the car. I instead get off the car and took the opportunity to have a tea myself and some biscuits. He took the opportunity to have his tea and biscuit paid by me too. 4. When we approached the Fort, the tourist guide jumped on the car with his nephew, a young girl about 9 years old. He was unshaved, speaking a fast and at trait incomprehensible English. He wore no tourist guide badge. 5. We arrived at the ticket counter, he asked me the 600 Rupees to buy my ticket, he did so but didn't give me the ticket. I had to ask for it later. 6. Instead of entering the main entrance and have the ticket checked by the guards, he asked me to sneak from a opening on the side, as if we hadn't the ticket. 7. He showed me around with very little and at some traits very inaccurate or contradicting himself. Many times he left me enter the buildings alone with no explanation o what was inside. Few times, when i came out of buildings, he gave some information about a question I raised earlier. I spot him twice checking on his mobile phone I suppose looking for information. 8. At some point he showed me and entered the cafe where I could go to the toilets if needed and have some refreshments. I did so, but once I've ordered some snacks, he went in the kitchen saying something in Hindi to the cooker. Once my snacks were ready, I sat on a chair in the corner for eating and saw the cooker laughing and the guide and the driver arguing. I'm not sure about the expectations, but I'm sure I had more in my plate than I ordered. I suppose he interfered with my order to have some for them too. He didn't ask me anything nor sat with me. 9. On the way back, the driver asked me if I wanted to have lunch somewhere, I said no I didn't. I was utterly tired and annoyed for the service I received and I couldn't wait to be back home. Nevertheless, halfway he stopped in a service area, left me in the car and had 30 minute stop for having his lunch. I paid 6700 rupees for being treated like a cattle to transport from one place to another, and then like a child to send to pull around with no explanations worth the price paid. There is Great history of chittorgarh and rajputs .
