What to expect
Begin with a visit to the Ana Kai Tangata, a cave with paintings on the roof and a name that reflects the cannibalism which took place on the island during the warfare period. See the Rano Kau, a volcano with a panoramic view of the island which plunges 200m (656ft) below to a beautiful lake.
See the ceremonial village of Orongo where, during the 18th and 19th centuries, one of the most interesting political ceremonies took place annually as different tribes competed to become the leader of the island. In breathtaking sports event that involved climbing down cliffs, swimming out to some islets off the coast, the islanders came to this beautiful part of the island to see who would be their next king.
Additionally, become intrigued with the Vinapu site, where you will see some of the island's beautiful rockwork, reminiscent of that found in the great Inca civilization of South America.
Make your way to Puna Pau quarry from which the large scoria (red, cindery, basaltic lava stone) where adornments that were fitted on the heads of many statues were taken. Then discover the Ahu Akivi, a restored site of seven statues. It is said to be the representations of the first seven explorers who came to the island. These seven moai are the only group of statues looking out to the sea.
Lunch is not included on this tour, but there will be opportunities to stop and get food along the way if you find yourself hungry.
Like many volcanic islands, Easter Island is riddled with lava tubes. Ana Te Pahu is one of the more extensive networks found on the island that you will see. Learn how the ancient Rapa Nui people used these cave networks to live, collect water, plant vegetables and hide from aggressive visitors from the outside in the 18th and 19th centuries.
When the tour is complete, you will be dropped back at your hotel.

We chose to do Summit to Subterranean as a way to see a lot of the island during our short stay. Our guide, Yoyo, took us completely off the beaten path, allowing us to learn about aspects of the island we wouldn't have known without seeing them. I was extremely impressed by how much of the island we covered in about 6-7 hours and it will be a memory that last forever. The team is great... they know the island very well, its stories, its secrets ... have an amazing time with such amazing people to experience such a beautiful and unique island. Enjoyed my entire stay with them as I booked all my day trips with them.

My friends and I had only 30 hours to spend on Easter Island and we needed to make the most of our time there. I contacted Green Island Tours and completed everything before getting there. Because there are only two flights in a day to the island (we were on the early flight) we got in after the tour was supposed to start. Green Island accommodated our start time. At the last minute another friend decided to come along and again Green Island accommodated us. Our tour guide showed up early and very enthusiastic about being our guide that day. There were three of us in a large roomy van. First stop the national park office to get our tickets and then we were off. Our driver/guide took us everywhere that there was a road and something to see. He was great! We saw all the major archeological sites and were given detailed information about what we were seeing. Our driver while he/we had an agenda went at our pace stopping on the road many times to let us out to take pictures. He hiked with us to all time at all the sites again explaining what we were seeing. Because we started late he made sure we had a full day tour, so he ended his day later than usual. The visit to Easter Island was a dream come true and our guide helped make it special.Thank you Green Island Tours and our guide Yoyo for making this one of my most memorable trips ever. Thank you Green Island Tours and our guide Yoyo for making this one of my most memorable trips ever. Easter Island is truly a wonderful place and green island tours were very accommodating of our needs and tailored the trip to the 3 of us - 1 Adult and 2 boys (19 &17yrs). We did the crater walk, full day historical tour, Moai monuments (on quad bikes !!) , north coast trek and stargazing and every tour was personal and unique. I would definitely have stayed longer if i knew how amazing this place was. We traveled at the start of July and the weather was awesome too :)
