Gerardo led an absolutely fantastic, comprehensive, informative tour. We hit every highlight of the park and found it well worth the cost of a private tour, if you should choose to go privately, though I’m sure Gerardo would be an amazing guide for a group as well. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the region, he’s a great communicator, and he makes for good company as well. The only variable that’s obviously out of his hands is visibility due to weather conditions, and we really lucked out, but I’m sure he’d provide an incredible experience regardless.I debated a lot about writing this review as I know COVID-19 has demolished the travel industry, but think others should know about my experience. I debated a lot about writing this review as I know COVID-19 has demolished the travel industry, but think others should know about my experience. I booked a private 3 day tour with Gerardo after reading his rave reviews on TripAdvisor. I am an avid traveler and normally do everything myself, but booked a private tour as my time was limited and knew it wasn't going to be possible to explore Patagonia on my timeline without a car. I was very excited about this tour and had been in communication with Gerardo for months leading up to my trip. Approximately a week before the trip he contacted me for some information that he needed to confirm our boat cruise. I immediately shared this information with him and expressed my concern that the cruise wasn't already booked. Based on our previous communications, I was under the impression everything was confirmed for my itinerary as I had paid in full for my tour over a month earlier. He assured me everything was okay. Then three days before my trip he messaged me stating he was exposed to COVID and needed to cancel. I was in Antarctica with very limited internet access. I wished him well and inquired about my refund. He said I "should" get a refund but didn't say he had submitted a request for a refund. The next day I received a generic email confirming my tour, so he clearly hadn't canceled it yet on his end. I had to contact the company to start the refund process. I also had to scramble to try and book accommodation arrangements on my own. I found out that the first place I was supposed to stay was sold out, so I reached out to Gerardo to see if he had already cancelled my hotel reservations. No response. I then reached out again to see if he could recommend any other guides or provide advice...again no response. I thought he would at least try and give me a couple of suggestions as he left me high and dry, but I never head from him again. I see that he has other reviews from January 2022. In my gut I don't believe he was exposed to COVID. I think he received a better offer and took that over my solo trip, which wasn't as lucrative for him.We ended up having our stay at extended in Punta Arenas and went on this full day tour.
